Obituary of Walter Kirschmann

KIRSCHMANN - Mr. Walter Kirschmann, formerly of Yorkton passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Extendicare Parkside Nursing Home in Regina on September 26, 2011 at the age of 75 years. Walter was born in Hazel Dell, Saskatchewan and received his education in Cana. He helped on the family farm and later moved to Yorkton to secure employment. He worked as an Electrician until the mid 70's and then went to work at Morris Rod Weeder as the Plant Electrician until 1982 when he retired due to poor health. He enjoyed planting a large garden and would give away the vegetables to whoever could use it. He also kept a beautiful yard with many flowers. He was well known for his many outdoor Christmas decorations with flashing lights, music and fancy displays; being an electrician came in handy. His health began to fail after he fell off a ladder at work and 10 years ago he suffered a stroke. As his health continued to fail it was necessary for him to be cared for by the Yorkton District Nursing Home. After numerous trips to the hospital it became necessary for Walter to undergo kidney dialysis which forced him to be transferred to the Extendicare Parkside Nursing Home in Regina. He was predeceased by his parents, Chris & O'Tillie Kirschman, infant brother and a sister Eleanor Hallwas. Walter is survived by sisters, Edna Zentner and Leona Chaban (Paul); brothers, Alfred Kirschman (Judy), Mervin Kirschman (Nancy), Kenneth Kirschman (Christine) and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held on Friday, September 30th at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Rev. Fred Schneider of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorkton.
