Obituary of Elaine Gawryliuk

GAWRYLIUK - Mrs. Elaine Gawryliuk, beloved wife of Norm Gawryliuk of Yorkton entered into eternal rest peacefully on September 26, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 62, after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine Jeannette Gawryliuk (nee Skehar) was born in Yorkton on September 4, 1949 to John and Annie Skehar (nee Zaychuk) and spent a wonderful childhood on the farm just west of Theodore. She graduated from Theodore High School and went on to complete business administration training in Regina. On October 11, 1969 she married Norman Gawryliuk and they settled and built their life together in Yorkton. She spent most of her career working at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre as a medical records transcriptionist until she retired in 2008. Elaine was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton where she volunteered at weddings, banquets and bingos. In her spare time and throughout her retirement she enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives, playing cards, tending to her flowers and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Elaine was predeceased by her parents John (1998) and Annie (2006) Skehar, her brother Johnnie Skehar in infancy, her mother-in-law Annie Gawryliuk (nee Andrusiak) (2003) and her brother-in-law William Carmody (1986). Elaine leaves to celebrate and rejoice in her memory her loving husband Norman Gawryliuk of 42 years, her children Dean and his wife Sommer and their daughter Safya of Vancouver, Shaun and his wife Gita and their children Benjamin and Sara of Calgary, and Chad and his wife Michelle of Calgary. She also leaves her brother Ed Skehar and sister-in-law Iris of Theodore, sister Sylvia Springinatic and brother-in-law Ed of Sheho, and sister Lorraine Carmody of Saskatoon, sister-in-law Eileen Ewasienko and husband Nestor of Regina, and her numerous nieces and nephews. She cherished them all. Elaine will be sadly missed every day and her life will be forever remembered and celebrated. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, September 29th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 30th at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by Gerald Yaholnitsky and members of the Parish Choir. The crossbearer was Nestor Ewasienko and the casket bearers were Dean Gawryliuk, Shaun Gawryliuk, Chad Gawryliuk, Ed Skehar, Cindy Kildaw and Lorraine Mills. Tributes were given by Dean, Shaun and Chad Gawryliuk and Sylvia Springinatic. The interment took place in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
