Obituary of Mary Lutzko

LUTZKO - Mary Lutzko of Ituna Pioneer Health Centre, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2011 at the Pioneer Health Care Centre. She was 87 years of age. Mary was born in Poland on September 9, 1924. She was the daughter of Roman and Rose Kokoski. She had five siblings; Bill, George, Katie, Mike and Nellie. The family moved to Canada when Mary was eight years old. On October 15, 1944 Mary married Frank Grebinski. They farmed and operated a store and post office in the Beckenham district. Frank and Mary had 6 children; Francis, Bernie, Eugene, Emily, Elaine & Orest. In 1962 they moved to Ituna where they owned and operated a business. Mary also worked at the Seniors Lodge for a short time. Frank died in 1978. On May 3, 1980 Mary married Nick Lutzko, adding four step-daughters to her family; Verna, Linda, Jane and Sharon. Mary had many talents. She loved gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking and baked bread until she was in her early 80s. She was a member of the CWL and attending church was important to her. Family was important to Mary and she loved family gatherings, no matter how large. Everyone was welcomed in their home and usually greeted with a good meal and famous apple pie. Mary also enjoyed working with Nick in the shop refurnishing furniture, usually helping him with the finishing touch. Mary was a very gifted and spiritual lady. She was caring, modest, honest, had high values and integrity. She created a warm atmosphere and often put the needs of others ahead of her own. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and for the love she brought into our lives. A year ago Mary moved to the Ituna Care Home because of deteriorating health. Mary was predeceased by her parents Roman and Rose, first husband Frank, late husband Nick, infant daughter Francis, brothers Bill & George and sister-in-law Katie. Mary is survived by her mother-in-law Pearl Lutzko; her children Bernie (Sharon), Derrek & Celeste Grebinski; Eugene (Debbie), Brent (Stacey) & Greg (Sherri) Grebinski; Emily, Mike (Carolyn) and Ryan (Carlene) Onieu; Elaine (Dave), Mandy and Michelle Elash; Orest, Christopher, Brittany & Braydon Grebinksi; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor & Nevanda. She also has four step-daughters; Verna (Joe) Adamiak, Linda Smuk, Jane (Dave) Filarchuk, & Sharon (Tim) Cohen; and their families. Mary is also survived by her siblings; Katie Holowenko, Nellie Hendriks and Mike Kokoski; Sister-in-law Elizabeth Kokoski, Brother-in-laws, Pete (Sophie) Grebinski; Leonard (Leona) Grebinski, Mike Grebinski; Sister-in-law Ann Koback and Ann Grebinski as well as many nieces and nephews and friends. Prayer Vigil was held on Monday, September 26, 2011 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna 1 Saskatchewan. Linda Smuk and Emily Onieu gave a tribute of Mary's life. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father Albert Schmitz as the Celebrant. The readers were Celeste Grebinski and Ryan Onieu with Michelle Elash reading the Prayer of Intercession. The Gift Bearers were Peter and Sophie Grebinski. Crossbearer was granddaughter, Mandy Elash. Organist, Cecile Halyk and members of the church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", "Like A Shepherd" and "How Great Thou Art". Honorary Bearers were everyone who knew and loved Mary. The interment followed in the Ituna R.C. Cemetery with Brent Grebinski, Greg Grebinski, Braden Grebinski, Celeste Grebinski, Ryan Onieu and Owen Lutzko as the casketbearers.
