Obituary of Gloria Filipchuk
FILIPCHUK - Gloria Filipchuk was born on April 1, 1932 in Mazeppa, Saskatchewan to Metro and Katie (nee Todoschuk) Andrusiak. She attended Mazeppa School and completed her grade 10. Gloria was united in marriage to Dan Filipchuk on October 21, 1950. They farmed in the Hamton District until 1961 when they built their home in Yorkton. With a strong work ethic and a desire to be with people, Gloria worked at the Yorkton Union Hospital, Croll's Department Store, Dr.'s Lukey, Schebywolok and Rogoza, Agnew's Irene Hill and the Pool Food Services Centre. Gloria was a faithful parishioner of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. For 28 years she was a member of the Ukrainian Women's Association, Olena Pchilka Branch, served as 1 Vice, as an elder sister, was a dedicated Bazaar Convener and volunteer at the Orthodox Auditorium, when her health permitted. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, crocheting, baking, gardening and having coffee with her friends. Gloria loved her family dearly. She looked forward to their visits and tried to attend all their functions; be it Ukrainian dancing, music, concerts, sport games or school activities. With family at her side, Gloria entered eternal rest on September 3, 2011 at the age of 79. Gloria is predeceased by her parents Metro and Katie Andrusiak. Gloria leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory, husband Dan Filipchuk of 60 years, daughter Charlotte (Francisco) Gardulski of Saskatoon and loving grandson Sebastian Gardulski, two step grandsons Tomas and Benjamin Gardulski and step great granddaughter Aura of Calgary, sister Florence (Steve) Slywka of Yorkton; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and many good friends. A Celebration of Life was held with a prayer service on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 and the funeral service on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Cross Bearer was Sebastian Gardulski with Brenda Bird and Mindy St. Denis as Banner Bearers. Honorary Pallbearers were "All those who shared in Gloria's Life". Casket Bearers were Francisco Gardulski, Dustin Perepeluk, Garret Perepeluk, Kerry Perepeluk, Bev Repay and Elmer Repay. Ukrainian Women's Association, Olena Pachilka Branch was Honor Guard. Interment took place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Service Information
