Obituary of John Burant

BURANT - John Sylvester Burant was born on December 23, 1930 on the family farm in the Brewer district. He was born to August and Apolonia (nee Osicki) Burant and was the second eldest of twelve children. He attended Happy Home School and later worked for the C.N.R. as an engineer from 1956 to 1996. John also farmed throughout his life. He married Yvonne (nee Vanneste) in 1966 and was blessed to have one daughter, Rolande, born in 1969. He was the proud grandfather to three children, Emmett, Sylvie and Oliver. John was predeceased by his parents, August and Apolonia Burant; brothers Timothy (age 10 months), Dominic, David and Ben Burant; and brother-in-law Don Broad. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Yvonne; his daughter, Rolande Burant- Maher (Derek Maher) of Regina and three treasured grandchildren: Emmett, Sylvie and Oliver Maher (Regina). John will also be missed by his sisters and brothers: Rose Hobbs of Calgary; Pearl Broad of Calgary; August (Isabel) Burant of Yorkton; Rita (Nestor) Ohochinsky of Yorkton; Helen (Barry) Lester of Sherwood Park; Ike (Sherry) Burant of Warman; Pat Burant of Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Agnes Burant of Regina and Shirley Burant of Melville, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Prayer Services were held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Father Antoni Degutis O.M.I. presiding. Guitarist Len Varga led in the singing of the hymns, "Prayer Of St. Francis" and "City Of God". Tributes of John's life were given by daughter Rolande Burant-Maher and brother Pat Burant. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father Antoni Degutis O.M.I. as the Celebrant. Derek Maher and Rose Hobbs did the readings and Rolande Burant-Maher read the Intercessions. The gift bearers were Barry and Helen Lester and Agnes Burant was the Eucharistic Minister Len Gadica and Len Varga led in the singing of the hymns, "Here I Am Lord", "Beatitudes" "Amazing Grace" and "Be Not Afraid". Honorary bearers were all who knew John. The crossbearer was grandson Emmett Maher. The interment followed in the St. Henry's Parish Cemetery with August Burant, Ike Burant, Patrick Burant, Kevin Burant, Norman Vanneste and Orville Vanneste as the casketbearers.
