Obituary of Carla Gabel

GABEL - Carla Dawn Gabel passed away July 21, 2011 at the age of 37, wrapped in the love and presence of her family. She is survived by her husband and soul mate, Dean; sons, Zachary and Jacob; and her faithful pet, Josie. She is lovingly remembered by her father Carl (Leslie), mother Beverly Sommerville; brothers Dayne Babchishin (Darcie) and Matthew Babchishin (Ivy); sisters Shawna Sommerville (James), Sara Seversen (Todd), Amber Sommerville and Patricia Keith (Aaron); cherished nieces and nephews; doting uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws and many friends and family across the country. Born in Thompson, Manitoba, she lived in Regina, Moose Jaw, and Sturgis before attending elementary school in Edmonton and later attending Sturgis Elementary School and Sturgis Composite High School. She continued her education in cosmetology in Yorkton. She worked at Melrose Place before entering her career as a Teachers Aide with Yorkdale Central and Columbia School. It was a perfect career for Carla as she had a special connection with young people. Carla always felt, however, that her most important job was that of motherhood -- a job she pursued with a fierce passion and a soft heart. Creative and artistic, she brought flair to everything she did. Carla loved laughter, music, knowledge, nature, literature, drawing, art, children, and life. She enjoyed all of God's creatures from elephants (which she collected) to dragonflies. She was our bright light. Through her generous spirit, she reached many lives and even continued to reach out during her struggle with cancer through an online journal that inspired so many. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 25th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Steve Rosluk officiating. The organist, Kirsten Petersen (Cousin) led the congregation in the singing of the hymn, "Amazing Grace". Special songs, "Sister" and "Oh" were included in the service. A eulogy was presented by Donna Shore (Aunt) and Rene Woznesensky (Aunt). The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dayne Babchishin, Dwayne Gabel, Don Burtnack, Rick Hodge, Steve Kramer and Trevor Woychesko serving as the casket bearers. Memorial donation honouring Carla's life may be made to the Special Needs Program at Columbia School, 63 King St. E. Yorkton, SK S3N 0T7 Condolences to the family can be forwarded to www.baileysfuneralhome.com Her light continues to shine in our lives and will forever.
