Obituary of Mary Moldowan

MOLDOWAN - Mary Moldowan, widow of the late George Moldowan, passed away peacefully at The Yorkton and District Nursing Home on July 18, 2011, a month before her 95th birthday. She was born on August 19, 1916 in the Insinger district, daughter of George and Rose Kopan (nee Gawrelitza). On February 6, 1944 Mary was united in marriage to George Moldowan. The couple farmed in the Rokeby, Lysenko and Westbrook districts. They continued farming even after moving into the town of Theodore in 1952. They were blessed with three children, Eugene, who died in infancy, Ernest and Jeanette. Mary continued to live in Theodore after the passing of her husband, George, residing there for a total of 50 years. In 2002 she moved to Yorkton to live at The Queen Elizabeth Court. Mary was an active member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Theodore. She was very active in The Ukrainian Orthodox Women's Association. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and socializing with family and friends. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her heart, and were especially fond of her perogies. Mary enjoyed good health until being forced to move into the nursing home in 2008. Mary was predeceased by her infant son Eugene (1944), husband George (1971), parents Rose (1974) and George (1980), brothers William and Walter, sisters Anne, Bella, Evelyn, and Irene. She is survived by her son Ernest (Beverly) Moldowan, and daughter Jeanette (Zane) Lewchuk; grandchildren Scott (Candace) Lewchuk, Sheldon (Laurie) Lewchuk, Shelley Lewchuk (Michael Gardner), Steven (Susan) Lewchuk, Rhett (Katerina) Moldowan and Alyssa (Kyle) Gilbert; great grandchildren Christina, Courtney, Tyson Lewchuk, Emily and Jonathan Gardner, Evan Gilbert and Claire Lewchuk. She is also survived by her brothers Nestor, Morris, Orest, Matt, Joe and sisters Pauline, Elsie, Audrey and brother-in-law Paul Butula and sister-in-laws Mary Kopan and Sylvia Kopan. Prayer were held on Friday, July 22th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home and the Funeral Service was held on Saturday, July 23rd at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Theodore with Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky officiating. The cantor, Gerald Yaholnitsky and choir members led in the singing of the responses. Serving as palamar was Joe Moldowan. The cross bearer was Tyson Lewchuk and the banner bearers were Courtney Roy and John Maleschuk. The interment followed in the St. Mary's Parish Cemetery with Scott Lewchuk, Sheldon Lewchuk, Shelley Lewchuk, Steven Lewchuk, Rhett Moldowan and Alyssa Gilbert serving as the casket bearers.
