Obituary of Benny Nesbitt

NESBITT - Mr. Benny Nesbitt, formerly of Willowbrook passed away peacefully on Sunday July 17,2011 at the age of 84 in Yorkton Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a wonderful man, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Benny was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on April 8th 1927. He was the son of Susan and Thomas Nesbitt. Benny was the fourth child born of seven children. Benny spent his early days on the farm with his brothers co-farming. He then met the love of his life Gladys Schrader who became his wife of thirty plus years. They were very hard workers on the farm raising cattle, poultry, and grain farming. They were blessed with four beautiful children, Sheila, Norma, Randy and Carla. After the passing of his wife in 1992, Dad remained actively engaged with the activities of farming upon his hospitalization in August of 2010 where remained until his passing. Dad's home was always welcoming and cozy. His kindness was unconditional, and it set a fine example for his grandchildren .He always had refreshments, cookies in a tin, and a sandwich if you needed one. Dad made the best potatoes and fried eggs in the countryside. He especially enjoyed the family gatherings and neighborly visits. He was always up for a game of cards or dice. Dad was always willing to help a neighbor move machinery, or give someone a ride to another field. Dad always kept busy hauling and splitting wood, looking for that perfect piece. He participated in carrying chop, cutting twine, and sorting cattle. Grandpa enjoyed the hunting season, due to excitement of the hunting party. Dad's passion was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching baseball and knowing the outcome of the hockey games, he was the boy's biggest fan. He was never afraid to take Melville over Yorkton to earn a few extra dollars. He was a true sports fan who always cheered for the underdogs. His interest from curling was inspired when his wife and children took part. At sunrise his morning ritual was a walk around the farm to check on the animals and feed his cluster of cats. In the fall he would always make sure he had an ample supply of wood for the winter. Dad hauled wood up until the year of passing. Thanks to all who helped. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children Sheila (Ed) Frazer, Norma (Clayton) Bassingthwaite, Randy (Debbie) Nesbitt, Carla (Arnie) Sully.
