A memorial folder from the funeral service may be printed under the "Memories" tab, then choose "Memorial Program". McVey - Mr. David McVey, beloved husband of Lee of Yorkton, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 61 years of age. David was born on September 29, 1949, in Grandview, Manitoba to Charles and Ada (nee Scaife) McVey. Dave was a much wanted second child and younger brother to Kenneth who had, earlier that month, just left for university. Dave grew up and had his early schooling in Grandview. While Canada celebrated its centennial in 1967, David celebrated his high school graduation and moved on to the University of Manitoba where in his "Scottish" way, he did his arts and education degrees in just three years. At the age of 20, he accepted his first teaching assignment at the Winnipegosis Collegiate Institute and then hurried home to look it up on a map! During his 12 years in Winnipegosis, Dave taught with his future mother-in-law, Lucille Walterson and was a favourite teacher of the three youngest Walterson clan, including Lee! On July 5, 1980 David married Lee Walterson who had returned to her hometown to teach. They moved to Yorkton in 1982 and he taught at the Regional High School until 2001. Over the years, Dave taught a variety of subjects and impacted thousands of lives with his dramatic, entertaining, and occasionally unconventional teaching style. Dave's proudest legacy is his children. His firstborn son, Adam Carson, was born in March, 1985. Double delight came along in July, 1988 when his girls, "Laurnie Wynne and Kaelie Beth" were born. The youngest and hairiest member of the family, Remy was adopted into the clan in 2001 and quickly earned a special place in Dave's heart. When people think of David, they think cars, history and current events. But really, he was interested in so many things he could engage anyone in conversation and speak intelligently about their interests. Dave was the "go to" man for advice on so many things, but in particular car purchases in which he took vicarious pleasure on each deal closed! You always knew when Dave was around by his big voice and distinctive laugh. Dave became ill in 2001 and despite a poor prognosis, was determined to live his life to the fullest and make the most of every day he was given. His practical and positive outlook taught us much. The gifts of these ten years include seeing his children graduate and dancing at his son's wedding. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ada, his brother, Kenneth and in-laws, Kristjan and Lucille Walterson. Grateful for the years we had and cherishing his memory: his wife of 31 years, Lee; son Adam (Alana), daughters Lauren (Taylor Morrison) and Kaelyn (Lindsay Thompson) and Auntie Cathie. He will also be missed by sibs-in-law Bjarni (Joy) Walterson; Laurie (Sandra) Walterson; Sheila (Clay) Bullock; Karen (Dale) DePottie; and Crystal Walterson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Friday, July 8, 2011 from Westview United Church in Yorkton with Faye L. Greer officiating. Reflections and remembrances of Dave's life were given by Adam, Alana, Lauren and Keaelyn McVey, and by Lynne Brand. Organist, Laurene Jemieff and pianist, Shani Apland led the choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'In the Bulb There is a Flower', 'In the Quiet Curve of Evening', 'Go Now in Peace', and 'We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection'. The choir sang two anthems, 'The Lord Will Be My Shepherd', and 'Hear Us, O Father'. The interment took place in the Orkney Cemetery with son Adam as the urn bearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home (www.baileysfuneralhome.com)
