Obituary of Annie Oleski

OLESKI - Annie Oleski was born on August 16, 1914 in Melville, Saskatchewan, a daughter to Wasyl and Eudoxia "Emma" (nee Mucha) Macenko. Annie received her education at Fairland School. After her schooling she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and was employed as a housekeeper. On July 16, 1938 She was united in marriage to John Oleski in Winnipeg. The couple worked and resided there and in 1940 their eldest son Morley was born. In 1947 they moved to a farm in the Waldron district. Their youngest son Donald was born in 1949. Annie was a hard worker and took an active part in the farming operation, helping in any way she could. In 1981 the couple retired and moved into Melville. She was a member of the Melville Seniors Club and an active member of St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, sewing, watching TV and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Annie continued to reside in her own home until May 3, 2011 when she became a resident of St. Paul Lutheran Home. Due to illness she was admitted to St. Peter's Hospital where she entered her eternal rest on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the age of 96. Predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Emma; Husband John (1985); brother, Harry Macenko; sisters, Mary Olijnyk, Kay Saliniewicz and Nettie Proctor. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons and their families, Morley (Marlene) of Spruce Grove, AB and their daughter Lee-Ann (fiancé Chris); Don (Jo anne) of Melville and their daughters, Katerina (Petro) Nakutnyy and Talya (Eric) Solski; sisters, Lena Koroby, Olga Oleski and Effie (Arnie) Makinson all of Winnipeg, Jean Bishop of Bremmerton, Wash., USA also sister-in-law Polly Oleski of Winnipeg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayer services were held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. from St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melville, Saskatchewan. The responses were sung by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and members of the church choir. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father. Peter Pidskalny C.Ss.R.as the Celebrant. Responses were sung by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and Jean Dales. Epistle reader was Marlene Oleski and crossbearer wasTalya Oleski. Katerina (Oleski) Nakutnyy gave the eulogy. Honorary bearers were everyone who knew and loved Annie. The interment followed in the St. Henry's Cemetery with Petro Nakutnyy, Eric Solski, Ryszard Klak, Peter Olijnyk, Vernon Glaicar and Bob Cooper as the casketbearers. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
