Obituary of Russell Konkin

KONKIN - Russell John Konkin, a hardworking loyal and witty man, quietly passed away in his home on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the age of fifty-two. Russell was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on June 28, 1959 to John and Mabel (nee Moskalyk) Konkin. He spent many of his best days in Kamsack surrounded by family and friends. Russell enjoyed many things in life, but few brought the depth of joy he had for his children and grandchild. He loved listening to music, going to concerts, taking pictures, being a jokester, fishing, painting ceramics, cheering on the Winnipeg Jets, collecting memorabilia (often the hilarious kind), picking berries, baking, cooking and most importantly feeding everyone to the point of exhaustion. His neighbours, family and friends indulged in some of his dishes, shishliki and tarts! Welcomed to his new eternal home by his father, John; his grandparents and his brother in law, Garry Ostafie. His soul lives on through his partner, Laurie, his daughters, Allison and Nicole; his sons, Ryan and Garrett; and honourary son Logan; his mother, Mabel Laine; three sisters, Patty Ostafie, Laurie (Cameron) Stuart and Kim (Terry) Matichuk; as well as his only grandchild, apple of his eye and centre of his heart, Vincent. Russell is further survived by his many close neighbours, friends, and family who he spoke of so fondly on a regular basis Prayers were held on Thursday, July 7th and the Funeral Services on Friday, July 8th at Westminster United Church in Kamsack with Gwen Rielkoff officiating. Tribute of Words of Remembrance were given by Logan Ollivier. Musical Selections, 'Amazing Grace' The Bluewoods Band and Today I'm Gonna Change the World by Johnny Reid were included in the service. The interment followed in the Riverview Garden at Riverside Cemetery, Kamsack with Ryan Konkin, Garrett Konkin, Logan Ollivier, Bruce Thompson, Paul Gazdewich and Cam Stuart serving as the casket bearers.
