Obituary of Lena Eluschuk

Eluschuk - Mrs. Lena Eluschuk of Yorkton passed away June 23rd, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a lengthy illness. She was 105 years of age. Lena was born on February 22nd, 1906 to Dmetro and Mary (nee Kasianyk) Corroll, in the homestead district, north of Springside, Saskatchewan. Lena received her education from the Homestead School. She then worked in many farm homes helping the wives until the age of 17 when she married Metro Eluschuk. They farmed between Theodore and Springside. Their two daughters Maria and Alexandria were born there. They moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1928, where their sons William, Victor and Jerry were born. Lena was a faithful member of the Salvation Army since around 1935. She was very articulate and kept up with the daily events. She never missed sending a birthday or anniversary card to family and friends. She also loved gardening in her younger years. She was very compassionate and even with her limited income always helped others. Lena was the second oldest of a family of eight. She was predeceased by her parents, Dmetro and Mary, her five brothers; William, Fred, John, Mike and Harry, her two sisters; Anne Holfield and Dorothy Coflod, two sons; William and Victor, one daughter Alexandria and her son-in-law Frank Lewis. Lena leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her daughter Maria Lewis of London Ontario, her son Jerry (Colleen) Eluschuk of Houston Texas, four Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces nephews, friends and relatives. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, June 29th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Envoy Roy Bladen of the Yorkton Salvation Army officiating. The organist, Shirley Chornawka and guitarist, Bill Chornawka led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Blessed Assurance" and "In The Garden". The eulogy was shared by Victor Corroll. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Ernie Corroll, Victor Corroll, Rodney Corroll, Michael Holfied, Ron Rogoza and Ed Rogoza serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Lena's life can be made to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre or the Salvation Army as gifts of remembrance.
