Obituary of Frank Sopel

SOPEL - Mr. Frank Sopel, beloved husband of Olga Sopel passed away on June 10, 2011 at the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre. He was 82 years of age. Frank was born March 29, 1929 in Poland and immigrated to Canada in February, 1936 at the age of 6, with his parents John and Mary and has three sisters. Once in Canada Frank and his family started their new life north east of Ituna where he started farming with his dad on the homestead and attending the Hardrock School. On August 31, 1947 he married Olga Antonyshyn and were blessed with 6 children. He continued to farm but over the years had various other jobs, he drove the bus for 9 years, owned construction equipment and worked in various construction jobs. But no matter what other jobs Frank took, the love of the land and the love of farming was always number one, the only thing that could compare to his love of farming, was his passion for John Deere equipment. He loved to go for drives to check crops & livestock and go pick mushrooms. Through the summer seasons, he loved to go for drives with his wife in the country, to visit neighbors, play cards and have fun. Closer to retirement, he would love to drive around on his ATV to go around the yard to check cattle, the garden, and the worked land. Then, they moved into town in October of 2006. On February 12th, 2007, he suffered from a stroke where he was later placed in the Pioneer Health Centre in April of 2007 until his passing on June 10, 2011. Predeceased by his parents; John and Mary; brother-in-laws: Roy Tuchak, Stanley Zlomanchzyk, Joe Danesewich, son-in-law, Scott Longstaff. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory of his wife of 63 years, Olga; son Stanley (Shirley), Calvin (Arlene), Twila (Tyler), Clayton (Natasha), Joe (Jean), his children Jason (Colleen), Chrystal (Sheldon), Steven (Melissa), Myranda. Irene (Ron), her son Richard (Nicole), Maryanne (Darrell), John (Corrine), Colton, CaSandra, Patsy (Dale), Kayla & Kendra. Also, he was blessed with 11 great grandchildren. As well as his sisters Katie Tuchak of Chilliwack, BC., Ann Zlomanchyzk of Vancouver, and Caroline Danesewich of Yorkton and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Prayers were held on Monday, June 13th St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Gail Klus as the Lay Presider. The reading was given by Twila Brezinski. A tribute was shared by Clayton Sopel and Chrystal Strachan. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, June 14th at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy as the Celebrant. The cross bearer was CaSandra Sopel. The readings were given by Myranda & Jason Sopel and the intercessions by Calvin Sopel. Kayla & Kendra Onufreychuk served as the gift bearers. The organist, Paulette van der Helm led members of the parish choir and congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Be Not Afraid" "Amazing Grace", "Something Which Is Known", "May Flights of Angels Lead You" and "How Great Thou Art". The interment followed in Ituna R. C. Cemetery with Stanley Sopel as the urn bearer.
