Obituary of Peter Diakow

DIAKOW - Mr. Peter Diakow of Yorkton passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 80 years of age. Peter was born on August 10, 1930 one of the 11 children to Nickolas and Mary (nee Humeny) Diakow of the Rama District. Peter was raised on the family farm and completed Gr. XII at St. Vladimir's College in Roblin. Peter attended Teacher's College in Saskatoon and taught Elementary School for over 35 years retiring from Dunleath School just outside of Yorkton. During his life, he was very active in his church, sang in the choir and took part in the Knights of Columbus. Peter enjoyed sports especially hockey and baseball plus was an avid gardener. Peter leaves to cherish his memory his 4 children, Connie (Dave), Joyce (Cliff), Don (Jeannette), Diane (Rob) and 2 grand-children; Ryan and Dominion. He is survived by his brother Joe (Elsie); sisters, Olga and Annie and many nieces and nephews. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, June 1st , at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus & Parish Choir Members. Serving as epistle readers were Connie Wozney & Don Diakow. The cross bearer was Anthony Mazur. The private interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Don Diakow, Ryan Wozney, Larry German, Ray Bailey, Murray Bialobzyski and Lisa Ruf serving as the casket bearers.
