Obituary of Kay Popowich

POPOWICH - It is with great sadness that the family of Kay Popowich of Yorkton announces her passing on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the age of 91 years, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. Kay was born to Wasyl and Mary Dorush on August 15, 1919 in the Ituna district. Mom worked for the Sask. Poultry Plant for 16 years and made many friends there. She also worked at the Parkland Agriplex for several years. Mom loved to plant a large garden and shared her vegetables with friends. She also loved animals. Kay was predeceased by her husband Mike, three brothers and two sisters. Kay is survived by her son Ernie (Florence), their three children, Kelly (Charmaine), his daughter Joceylyn, Corey (Chrystal) and their children Jessa and Robin, Michelle Zimmerman (Bernie) and their children Meghan and Gregory. She is also survived by her daughter Fran Drosky (Bernie) and their children Duane (Joanne) their children Dacia Rae, Nicholas and Christopher; Dean (Lori) and their children Brooklyn and Brynlee, Shane (Bobbi-Jo) and their children Aiden and Kaylee. She is also survived by a brother, John (Mary) of Canora, Sask. Prayers were held on Thursday, May 26th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary led by U.C.W.L.C. preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, May 27th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & parish choir members. The epistle reader was Bobbi-Jo Drosky and the cross bearer was Carl Pacholko. An honour guard were formed with U.C.W.L.C. members. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Duane Drosky, Dean Drosky, Shane Drosky, Bernie Drosky, Kelly Popowich and Brett Marianchuk serving as the casket bearers.
