Obituary of Anne Bren

BREN - Anne Bren was born on May 12, 1915 in the MacNutt district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Cidor & Mary (nee Kisluik) Sawchuk. She was raised on the farm but as a young woman ventured down east, to Cochrane, Ontario. There she met Nick Bren, and the couple were united in marriage on January 20, 1938. Nick had a watch and jewellery business there. Anne loved to work with flowers and she also grew a large garden. She enjoyed feeding the birds and being outdoors. On February 17, 1976, Nick passed away. Following his death, Anne stayed in the St. Catherine's area for many years before moving back home to Yorkton in the 1980's. She resided on Lincoln Ave. for many years before her health declined to a point of becoming a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. Anne passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Nursing Home, she was 96 years of age. Predeceased by her brother, Nick Sawchuk, and by her sister, Elena Flundra; she is survived by her brothers: Peter and his wife Lena Sawchuk of Churchbridge; and John and his wife Jean Sawchuk of Melville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Wednesday morning, May 25, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church officiating. The interment took place in the Garden of Crucifixion with Steve, Barry and Allen Sawchuk, and Jim Flundra serving as the casket bearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home.
