DEMCHYNSKI - Mr. Mike Demchynski of Canora passed away May 17, 2011 at the Preecville Health Care Centre at the age of 82 years. Mike was born on April 26, 1929 in Canora, Saskatchewan a son of Pete and Annie (nee Hywarren) Demchynski. He attended Anak School and later Tadmore School. He then came to live with his aunt and Uncle Mary & George Bordun where he also helped with the farm. He married Shirley Bodnaryk and were blessed with three children, Iris, Karen and Brent. Mike began his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator which took him and his family to various points in Canada. Later in his life he married Ida Wheeler and the couple made their home in Regina for over 25 years. After Ida's passing Mike moved to Thompson, Manitoba to live with daughter, Iris and Dave Gray. He always longed to move back to his roots and so for the last number of years he made his home in Canora where he was closer to his relatives. As a young man Mike had a passion for horses and in his adult years his DC 8 Cats were his passion. Mike's great grandchildren brought him a lot of laughter and happiness. In his retirement in Canora Mike loved going for coffee with his friends, Orville, Nick and Paul. His health began to deteriorate in the last few years and recently was hospitalized at both Canora and Yorkton Hospitals. Most recently he was a patient at the Preeceville Health Care Centre until his passing. Predeceased by his parents and brother Steve, he leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters Iris (Dave) of Thompson, MB and Karen (Nicholas) Shearer of Buckhorn, ON; his son Brent of Moose Jaw; granddaughter Lora Lee (Harvey) Richard; great grandchildren Angelia (Calin), Allysa and David; sisters, Vicky and Maria and brothers, Metro and Jimmy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His smile and laughter will be remembered and missed by his family and friends. The prayer service was held on Thursday, May 19th and the funeral service was held on Friday, May 20th, both services at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Donwell West, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father Patrick Powalinsky officiating. The responses were led by Zennovia Duch & parish choir members. Serving as cross bearer was Angie Drobot. The interment followed in the parish cemetery with Jimmy Demchynski, David Gray, Orville Drobot, Steven Procyshen, Ben Korol, Victor Wolf and Gerald Wiwchar serving as the casket bearers.
