Obituary of Matt Kozakewich

KOZAKEWICH - Matt Kozakewich of St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 100 years. Matt was born on October 19, 1910 on the original homestead in the Goodeve district of Saskatchewan. A son to Hnat and Anna (nee Bohay) Kozakewich. Matt went to Robert School and received his grade 10 education and stayed to help his parents on the family farm. In 1952 his parents moved to Regina and Matt continued to farm with his brother George until 1977. Matt moved into Melville and resided on Manitoba Street for a while then in 1981 the Melville Heritage nd House was built on 2 Ave. west Matt became one of the first residents and resided there for 26 years. On November 11, 2009 he became a resident at St. Paul Lutheran Home. where he passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the age of 100 years. Matt was very involved with Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Goodeve and served as secretary for 42 years as well secretary for the Heritage House for 20 years. Matt enjoyed watching TV, reading, calling Bingo for the Heritage House residents, most of all socializing with family and friends. Predeceased by his parents: Hnat and Anna (nee Bohay) Kozakewich; step-mother: Katherine (nee Sawchyn); brothers: Mike, Joe and George; sisters: Annie Dumka, Margaret Halyk, Mary Hrebeniuk, Rose Petlock; brothers-in-law: Bill Skorobohach, Nick Zwarich, Ednot Petlock, George Hrebeniuk and Steve Sawchyn; sisters-in-law: Katie Kozakewich and Delores Kozakewich. Matt leaves to cherish his memory brothers: Jack (Pauline), Bill (Phyllis), Alex (Nettie), Andrew (Helen), Boris (Anne) and Peter (Nancy); sisters: Pearl Skorobohach, Alice Zwarich, Elizabeth Sawchyn; brothers-in-law: Mike Dumka and Bunny Halyk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
