Obituary of Selma Jendrasheshke

JENDRASHESKE - Mrs. Selma Jendrasheske of Langenburg passed away on May 13, 2011 at the age of 84, eight days shy of her 85th Birthday. Selma was surrounded by her family at St. Anthony's Hospital Esterhazy Sask. Selma Adele Ruth Haberstock was born May 21, 1926 in her home in the Beresina District. In 1929 the family moved to Stewert Minnesota USA. Returning to Canada in 1939 in to the Churchbridge Area. Attending Beresina School till the age of 15, when she stayed at home to help with chores and home duties. Mom later took a job away from home in the MacNutt area where she met Carl Jendrasheske at Youth Gatherings. On October 20, 1944 they were united in a marriage of 61 years, that was blessed with 6 children. Selma and Carl started married life in a log cabin in the Rothbury Area. Three years later purchasing the Wagner farm in the Beresina area where they built a home and started the family farm, where they raised their children. Residing on the farm for 30 years. Mom was kept very busy, with helping Dad, along with gardening, sewing, baking (fresh Buns-Kuchen, noodles, and chicken foot soup), milking cows, hauling grain and getting ready for all the family gatherings. In 1977 they moved into Langenburg to a new house where mom immediately made it into a family home. She continued to garden and enjoy a bit quieter life from the farm. Mom was always ready for her family to come home, or to give a listening ear to anyone that needed to talk. Mom was the best teacher a child could have, a real homemaker. After Dad's passing she became involved with the Red Hat's and the Community Ladies Bible Study- Always looking forward to these outing Selma will be remembered by all, by her quite demeanor, never a complaint, always happy. Mom spent latter years in quite time with the Lord and praying for family, which now number 77 and counting. Her eyes would light up whenever she saw young or old family. She loved to hear stories, and be involved with whatever was going on. Mostly was her love for Jesus and her willingness to share His love to everyone. Selma was predeceased by her husband Carl (2006); her parents, Fred and Adele (Dressler/Haberstock); sister Luella, brother Wilfred and baby brother Jermone; son-in Law Edwin Onofriechuk, as well as several brothers-in law and sisters-in law and maternal parents. She leaves to mourn, son Don (Wendy) Jendrasheske of Rock Mountain House, AB; daughters Elaine (Harold) Rathgeber of MacNutt, SK, Carol (Gerald) Wagner of Yorkton, SK. Karen Onofriechuk of MacNutt, SK, Charlene (Dale) Peppler of Langenburg, SK, Lorraine (Marlin) Gilbertson of Caronport SK, seventeen grand-children and thirty-six great grandchildren; sisters, Jeannette Wiesinger, Elfredia Adelman, Gerturde Poier, Marjorie Geise; brothers, Elmer, Rodney and Harold Haberstock, as well as her extended family, nephew's niece's and a good many friends. A Service of Comfort was held on Monday, May 16th and the funeral service on Tuesday, May 17th at Christ Lutheran Church in Langenburg with Pastor Jim Gordon of Gospel Outreach Centre officiating. The organist, Arla Welke led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Blessed Assurance", "In the Garden" and "O Take My Hand and Lead Me". Selma's children sang, "Bless the Lord O my Soul". Special Music was provided by granddaughters Cheryl, Sharon, Sandra, Libby and Tara. A video tribute was given by the Rathgeber Family. Recognized as honourary bearers were the Red Hat Ladies, Community Ladies Bible Study Group, All of Selma's Grandchildren and Friends and Acquaintances. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Clarence Wagner, Sharon Fenez, Shayne Wagner, Stacey Onofriechuk, Christopher Peppler and Jonathon Gilbertson serving as the casket bearers. Memorials may be made to the Gideons Bible Society or the Lutheran Hour as gifts of remembrance.
