Obituary of Lena Swerhun
SWERHUN - Lena passed away on Sunday, May 8th 2011 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. She was 92 years of age. Lena was born on the family farm on April 7, 1919 to John and Iwana Bewcyk. She is survived by her three children: Marlene Mathers of Vernon BC; Dan Yasinski (Betty) of Snow Lake, MB; and Bill Yasinski (Lorraine) of Winnipeg, MB; seven grandchildren: Brenda, Brent & Miles Kilback; Leanne (Glenn) Thacyk, Trevor Yasinski, and Audrey (Ryan) Thibeault; and Kimberley (Daniel) Barden and Ryan Yasinski. Also seven great grandchildren: and a sister, Elsie Kryworuchka, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her first husband, William Yasinski in 1966, her second husband, John Swerhun in 2008, daughter-in-law Elsie Yasinski, son-in-law Irvin Kilback, grandson Bart Kilback, sisters: Dora Horaska, Katie Eftoda, Mary Onoferson, Margaret Hnatiuk, Rose Morash, and by brothers Peter, Bill and Nick Bewcyk. The Swerhun family extends a very special thank you to the dedicated staff at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Lena. The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. Father Francis Hengen of St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church officiated. Son Dan was the lay-reader, and son Bill gave a tribute to Lena. Organist, Judy Berg, led members of St. Gerard's Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'I Will Never Forget You', Psalm 23, and 'O God Our Help in Ages Past'. The interment took place in the Garden of Devotion with Gerald Kryworuchka, Peter Horaska, Ryan Yasinski, Glenn Thacyk, Peter Eftoda, and Jim Eftoda serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were in care of Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information
