Obituary of Harry Krunek

KRUNEK - It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Krunek announces his falling asleep in the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the age of 81 years. Harry was born on December 13, 1929 to Peter and Anna (Derow) Krunek in the Drobot district, near Springside, SK. He grew up on the family farm, received his education at North Lake School district. Harry loved to play the violin and socialize. He was a naturalist whose love of nature characterized his view of life. He began farming with his father during the difficult years of the depression era and loved his horses and cattle. There were many stories of the hard physical labour in the fields putting up hay, tilling the land, seeding crops and threshing in the fall. Harry maintained a strong belief in his religion and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada. He was a cantor, a supporter and member of executives of the local church. A great deal of time was devoted visiting other parishes. He also made a point of traveling to Ukraine and Brazil to visit Ukrainian Orthodox churches to lend his financial and spiritual support. Throughout his life, Harry belonged to the Saskatchewan - Ukrainian Private Farmers Exchange, the Ukrainian Professional & Business Men's Association, and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. He was an advocate of democracy and belonged to three political parties. Harry's kind hearted and humble nature served as a role model for his family and others. Harry enjoyed the company of his great nephews and nieces. He was proud of all their personal achievements as individuals and family. Harry was predeceased by his parents Peter and Anna Krunek, brothers John and Michael (infancy), sisters Olga Krunek, Mary (Bill) Zubiak and Lena (George) Penteluk, a brother-in-law, Leonard Makowsky and a sister-in-law, Francis Krunek, and child in infancy. He is survived by sisters Doris Makowsky of Canora and Rose (Mike) Kerelchuk of Saskatoon and by a brother, William Krunek of McCreary Manitoba; and their families. Harry will be sadly missed by family and friends and all that came to know and respect him. Prayer services were held on Tuesday evening, May 10, 2011 and the funeral service was held on Wednesday morning, May 11th, all from the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton.
