Obituary of Helen Lemchuk

LEMCHUK - It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Lemchuk of Yorkton, Saskatchewan on April 13 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Helen was born on June 28, 1928 in the Fenwood district. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Matilda Zulyniak, husband Nick, brothers Tom and Tony, and sisters Shirley and Della. Helen is survived by her son Glenn, sisters Nellie Taylor and Florence Oscienny. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Helen, the oldest of seven children, attended Maxwelton School and worked on her parents farm. She married Nick in 1950 and they farmed near Willowbrook. Later, Helen joined the dietary staff at the Yorkton Union Hospital and, after 25 years, retired in 1990. Among Helen's many passions over the years were gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining family and friends. She loved animals and birds. Helen enjoyed watching sports and was a big fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and could be described as an armchair quarterback. Prayer service was held on Sunday, April 17th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, April 18th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and St. Mary's Choir members. The cross bearer was Gwen Carr and epistle reader was Karen Pease. The interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Brian Pedde, Dwayne Pedde, Bernie Stadnyk, Brandan Carr, Brent Oscienny and Curtis Oscienny served as the casket bearers. Donations in memory of Helen can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Yorkton branch). The family expresses its gratitude to Dr. Roodt along with the EMS, Emergency Room, and wards 1st west and 1st east staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
