At a young age Mom left school and took over the house duties after losing her Mom. She was the "Big Sister" to her five brothers and one sister. Mom and Dad enjoyed their country life together, picking gooseberries, saskatoons, pincherries, rhubarb and cranberries. We always had a great jam selection. They farmed in the Goodeve area until 1980. Then they retired to Willowbrook. She was very active in church, loved music and singing in the choir. She taught Ukrainian to anyone who wanted to learn, also taught Ukrainian alphabet and songs to the Ukrainian Dance Club in Willowbrook. She enjoyed trying to teach us kids to play a guitar, mandolin or accordion, and taught her children and grandchildren at any early age to make buns and perogies. Katie enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting and crafts, especially making doilies on a loom for Christmas and birthdays. She loved her birthdays and cherished the family time we spent together. Mom was Secretary for 12 years for the Holy Trinity Ladies Club. A member of the UCWL, also on executive of the Willowbrook Recreational Board from 1984 to 1994. Mom was also a member of the Senior Social Club. Mom and Dad's greatest trip was to Montreal to visit Auntie Marie and Uncle Jean Guy (Dad's youngest sister). After losing Dad in 1986, Mom and Auntie Mary traveled by bus to many places including Saskatoon, Calgary and Lethbridge. Also many trips with the Willowbrook Seniors. Mom's greatest adventure was with her daughter Elaine, they drove to Watson Lake, White Horse, Yukon. They went as far as Skagway Alaska. Mom got to see the Northern Lights up close, which she loved. Mom will forever be remembered by her infectious smile. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, March 11, 2011 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna.
