BLIGHT - Karin Sophia (Erickson) Blight of Kelliher passed away on March 5, 2011 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. She was eighty five years of age. Karin was born on December 10, 1925, to Swedish parents Olaf and Maria (nee Hagen) Erickson at the family home in the Garnock District south of Kelliher. She attended Garnock School and Kelliher School, earning herself a grade eleven education. In 1943 she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. She served in Ontario; after demobilization she worked in British Columbia and Alberta. She returned to Kelliher in 1949. On June 5, 1950, Karin married Henry Blight. They farmed south of Kelliher and raised four children, Marlene, Maureen, Brian and Robert. Karin started working at the Hatchery in 1977. In 1989, she left the farm and moved into Kelliher. Karin enjoyed homemaking and was an avid gardener. She kept Swedish traditions alive by making thin bread and lutefisk dinners. Karin had a great interest in curling, participating in league play and bonspiels for thirty-five years. Following her move into Kelliher, she cleaned houses, cared for seniors, and volunteered in the community. Participation in the Senior Citizens Club meant a lot to her. Other interests included quilting, knitting, playing cards and doing puzzles. Karin watched her children progress in their adult lives and saw the grandchildren mature into young citizens. The great grandchildren brought her much pleasure. Over the past eight years Karin experienced declining health. She died at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on March 5, 2011, at the age of 85. Cherishing her memory are two daughters, Marlene (Jim) Tymiak of Kelliher and Maureen Blight (David) of Danbury; two sons, Brian (Kathy) of Kelliher and Robert (Kelly) of Foam Lake; grandchildren Tarilynn Tymiak of Regina, Corilynn (Curtis) Nakonechy of Cupar, Keith (Jodi-Marie) Blight of Kelliher, Kurt (Angela) Blight of Saskatoon, Kris Blight of Regina, Chantelle Blight of Saskatoon and Katlin Blight of Foam Lake; and great grandchildren Carson, Mercedes, Reauna, and Mariah Blight, and Tyson and Chloe Nakonechy. Also cherishing her memory are two sisters, Ellen (Lloyd) Faure and Julia Wahl, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Olaf in 1998. Known for her gentle spirit and determined nature, she was a friend to many over the years. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Kelliher Community Hall with Pastor Fred Schneider of the Lutheran Church of Canada officiating. Pastor led in the singing of the hymns ‘Amazing Grace' and ‘In The Garden'. Special music Coat of Many Colours by Dolly Parton and Too Old To Die Young by Mo Bandy were played. Karin's daughters and grandchildren gave tributes and words of remembrance on behalf of the family. Honourary Bearers were Curling Friends, Citizen Club Members and Coffee Row Ladies. Grandchildren, Chantelle & Katlin Blight served as the urnbearers. A reception and time of fellowship followed the service and Karin's sons, Brian and Robert shared words of appreciation. Interment will follow in the Kelliher Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Karin may be made to the Kelliher Curling Club c/o Box 332 Kelliher, SK S0A 1V0 as gifts of remembrance.
