Obituary of David Scheller

SCHELLER - David (Dave) August Scheller was born May 18, 1923 on the family farm in the Yorkton district; a son to Martha (nee Stebner) and Julius Scheller. He was the eldest son in a family of 12. Dave received his education in the Ebenezer and Wallace districts. He joined the army in 1940 and while enlisted married Jenny McNeil in 1941 at Barrie, ON. After his discharge in 1945 they moved to the Ebenezer district for a short time before moving to Toronto. Dave and Jenny had two children, Patsy and Wayne. Jenny passed away in 1954. Dave worked for the CN Railroad for 12 years then for the AbCo Chemical Company. He married Connie Witiger and they had two children, Cindy and David. Dave and Connie moved back to Yorkton to enjoy their retirement. When Dave was no longer able to be on his own he moved into the Yorkton and District Nursing Home and enjoyed the last four years making new friends and participating in many activities. A very enjoyable time for Dave was when his grandson Derrick would join him and take part in the Remembrance Day Service. David passed away on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Nursing Home. He was 87 years of age. He was predeceased by parents Julius and Martha; wife Jenny; wife Connie; son Wayne; daughter Cindy; brothers Joseph, Albert, Paul, Leslie, and Lorne; sisters Gertrude Philip, Margret Jacobs, and Erma Lockhart; and by a son-in-law, Fred Nearing. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Patsy Nearing of Cape Breton Island; son David (Sharon) of Toronto; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Violet Mills, Bernice Scheller and Elizabeth (Bill) Popowich; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon, March 3, 2011 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Crystal Bailey officiating. Hymns played were 'Amazing Grace', 'Church in the Wildwood', and 'In the Garden'. Members of the General Alexander Ross branch of the Royal Canadian Legion were in attendance and performed the Legion Tribute Service. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Christopher Popowich serving as the urnbearer. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
