Obituary of Steve Bohay

BOHAY - Steve was born on January 5, 1924 on the family farm south of Goodeve Saskatchewan. He received his education at Robert School and eventually worked on the family farm. He entered the army at the age of 18 and spent time overseas in World War II. After his return he continued to farm, met his wife Grace and was married June st 21 , 1956. Steve and Grace continued to farm until they retired to Melville in 2000. Steve always enjoyed his family and guests. When company arrived he would welcome them with open arms. A drink, a game of cribbage, lunch and coffee were standard fare. Most of all Steve enjoyed his family. Whether the kids were young or when they grew up, his children and grandchildren would always put a smile on his face. Steve was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Grace in 2004. Also predeceased by his parents John and Anna Bohay (Komarechka). Sister and brother-in-law Nellie and Nick Rygus, sister and brother-in-law Katie and Joe Novak, sister Lena Filipchuck, brother Alex Bohay, sister-in-law Natalie Bohay, and brother-in-law Charlie Temple, as well as three brothers in infancy George, Metro, and Fred. Steve will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Deloris (Lyle) Rathgeber and their children Calvin and his sons Arron and Josh, Kristen (Doug) and their daughter Abigail. Son Lorne (Pam) Bohay and their children Matthew and Kayla (Owen). Son Ray (Patty) Bohay and children Ashley and Taylor. Daughter Myris (Darryl) Halyk and children Ryan (Marcie) Halyk and their children Keaton and Gradey, TeNeil (Neil) Ludwar and their daughter Jaida, and Chad Halyk. And son Gerry (Sharon) Bohay and their children Katelynn, Erica, and Kyle. Steve will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nephews, and nieces. Steve also leaves to mourn his brother Matt Bohay, brother Henry (Eleanor) Bohay, brother Peter (Lydia) Bohay, sister Rosie Temple, sister Sophie (Albert) Eskow, brother Myron (Helen) Herasymuik, sister in law Violet Bohay, and brother in law Bill Filipchuck. Prayer services were held on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. from St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Melville. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church, Melville with Rev. Fr. Raymond Lukie C.Ss.R as the Celebrant. The responses were sung by members of the St. George's Church Choir. Len Gadica and Len Varga sang hymns "I Am The Bread Of Life", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Honor Guard were members of the Robert G. Combe V.C. Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and Legion Rites were performed by Brian Morris. The epistle reader was granddaughter Katelynn Bohay and the with Crossbearer was grandson Kyle Bohay. Honarary bearers were grandchildren Kristen Rathgeber, Doug Young, TeNeil Ludwar, Neil Ludwar, Marcie Halyk, Ashley Bohay, Katlynn Bohay, Erica Bohay great grandchildren Arron Rathgeber, Josh Rathgeber, Keaton Halyk, Gradey Halyk, Jaida Ludwar and Abigail Young. The interment followed at the St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in the Fenwood district grandchildren, Calvin Rathgeber, Ryan Halyk, Matthew Bohay, Kayla Bohay, Taylor Bohay and Chad Halyk as the casketbearers. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
