Obituary of Peter Yaremko

YAREMKO - Peter Yaremko, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 80 years of age. Peter Yaremko was born on July 4, 1930 in the Fone Hill district of Saskatchewan; a son of Steve and Pearl (nee Dobko) Yaremko. Peter was raised on the family farm and attended the Fone Hill School. As a young man he helped on the family farm and eventually took over the farming operation. Peter was a true man of the land, he took great pride in his work and loved the rural lifestyle. Peter eventually retired from the farm and had lived in Yorkton for a number of years. He always grew a large garden and was very generous in supplying family with fresh produce. He will also be remembered for being very helpful to any family member who needed a task completed. Peter also enjoyed playing the harmonica by himself and with a local band. Peter suffered a debilitating stroke in 2003 which caused him to lose his voice and other functions. After a time in the Canora Nursing Home, Peter was transferred to the Yorkton Nursing Home in 2004, where he had since resided. Predeceased by his parents, brothers: Daniel (1957), Mike (1977), John (1990), Luddy (2006), and Henry (2008); sisters: Rose Lazurko (1986), Nell Shordee (2003), Mary Lucash (2003), Annie Sarada (2005), and Lena Spilak (2006). He is survived by his sister, Helen Woloschuk of Yorkton, and by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Friday, February 25, 2011 from the Family Worship Centre, Yorkton with Pastor Gerald Wagner officiating. Bill & Shirley Chornawka, along with Dawn Peturson of the Sonshine Singers, led in the hymns 'What A Day That Will Be', 'How Great Thou Art', 'Suppertime', and 'Amazing Grace'. Great niece, Cassidy Westberg gave a tribute. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Harold Sarada, Brent Woloschuk, Theo Shordee, Dale Lazurko, Bill Yaremko and Kyle Westberg serving as the casketbearers.
