Obituary of Ed Kozuska

KOZUSKA - Ed Kozuska beloved husband of Sophie Kozuska of the Sturgis district passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Canora Hospital. Edward James Kozuska was born in the Yorkton Hospital to George and Pearl (nee Humeniuk) Kozuska. He lived with parents in Hampton, Sk. until he was two years old, and they moved to Sturgis, Sk. He received his education at Mannanah School and Sturgis. He married Sophie Walchuk from Amsterdam, Sk. in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Canora, Sk. A mixed farm by Sturgis became their home, where they raised their two daughters. There Ed farmed till 2009 and continued to reside until his passing. Ed's career ended up being grain farming, but he had other jobs and was involved in a lot of volunteer work .He was a Taxi Driver in Sudbury, Ont. and worked at International Harvester in Hamilton, Ont. He was on the board for the snow plow committee, hauled logs in the reserve, secretary treasurer for the Mannanah School Division, member of the Farmer's Union, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and Saskatchewan United Grain Grower's. For many years he also enjoyed being a salesman for Short Line Farm Equipment. He was a delegate to the Trident Camp, a member and Treasurer for TYC, Vice President for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis and also an Alter Server there for over thirty years. Ed passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Canora Hospital. Predeceased by his parents, George and Pearl and his brother, Harvey. Ed leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sophie of Sturgis, SK; two daughters, Christine (Randy) McCumsey of Fort St. John, BC and Cindy (Nestor) Dutchak of Yorkton, SK; his granddaughter Kendra Dutchak of Vancouver, BC; three brothers, Fred Kozuska of Nanaimo, BC, Orest (Leona) Kozuska of Saskatoon, SK and Norman Kozuska of Nanaimo, BC; one sister, Jean (Wayne) Hay of Winnipeg, MB as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Friday, February 25, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The Cantor was Lillian Steranko assisted by members of the parish choir. Ron Steranko served as the reader. The Crossbearer was Roy Kolot. A memorial luncheon followed and daughter, Cindy Dutchak gave a tribute and words of appreciation on behalf of the family. Interment was in the Garden of St. Luke in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kyle Kozuska, Carla Hay, Garth Hay, Genevieve Kurkowsky, Randy McCumsey and Nestor Dutchak serving as the casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Ed may be made towards the Canora Hospital Auxillary for equipment purchases or towards pain management pumps at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
