BOYCHUK - Janice Darlene Boychuk was born March 17, 1955 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the third of four daughters born to Jack and Bernie Armstrong. Jan grew up in Moose Jaw, receiving her education at King George Elementary and Central Collegiate High School, graduating in 1973. Growing up, Jan acquired a love of music - a trait she gained from her mother and grandmother and later passed on to her own three daughters. Jan started her working career in Winnipeg at Manitoba Telephones. She was proud of a story she often told that, while working there, she met Burton Cummings of the famous 1970's rock music group "Guess Who". Burton had his phone cut off for lack of payment while being on the road. Jan offered little sympathy and just suggested that he have someone else pay the bill for him. Jan later started working for Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg, Calgary then Moose Jaw where a telephone romance began with Ron who worked for Bank of Montreal in Assiniboia, a romance which would blossom into much more. Part of her duties included calling Ron on a daily basis for business. Jan laughed when she told of how her girlfriends would gather around to listen to the conversations that often included a little monkey business instead of official business. Jan and Ron were married in 1987 and soon after moved to North Battleford where Sarah and Kristin were born. After a short stay in Saskatoon in 1993, they moved to Yorkton in 1994 where Jenna was welcomed into the family. Jan's passion for music and God continued to grow. She was part of several churches and called Prairie Harvest home. She loved singing and looked forward to any occasion to do so. While her children were young, Jan began working at pre-schools. After her children had moved on to elementary school, she worked at Zebra X-ing and was known as "The Singing Waitress". Later, Jan became a teacher's aide with Christ the Teacher School Division. She absolutely loved her students and glowed when she talked of their daily activities and accomplishments. While enjoying the family cabin at Madge Lake, Jan began her involvement in the Madge Lake Bible Camp. Jan provided unconditional love to her daughters, encouraging them in all their activities. She never missed a music recital, Christmas program or play and was always there with a hug, kiss and a "well done". In 2006, Jan was first diagnosed with cancer that returned in 2010. While battling the disease, she kept a positive attitude and bright smile, looking forward to spending time with family and friends. Jan's love of music continued to the end. Her face would light up during the nightly lullabies or songs that were sung by her friends. Jan passed away January 24, 2011 surrounded by the love of family and friends. Jan is survived by her loving husband Ron, their three daughters Sarah, Kristin and Jenna. She is also survived by her mother Bernie Armstrong of Moose Jaw, sister Jackie Armstrong of Moose Jaw, sister Shirley Reid of Millet, Alberta, sister Kathy Carey (John) of Moose Jaw as well as her four nephews. Jan was predeceased by her father Jack in 2007. The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon, January 28, 2011 from the Prairie Harvest Christian Life Centre, Yorkton with Pastor Desmond Klingspon officiating. Tributes to Jan were given by her three daughters, Sarah, Kristin & Jenna, and by her three sisters, Jackie, Shirley and Kathy. Special music - 'Safe', 'I Belong' & 'His Eye is on the Sparrow' was by Beauty for Ashes, and members of the Captivating Women's Group of the church sang 'The More I Seek You', and 'Jesus Loves Me'. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Randy Boychuk, Marty & Jesse Tressel, Fred Thomson, and Michael and Wesley Reid serving as the casketbearers.
