Obituary of Lucy Muzyka
MUZYKA - Lucy Muzyka was born on January 16, 1916 in the Brewer district of Saskatchewan, a daughter to John and Stella (nee Slafarek) Woloschuk. Lucy attended Pulaski Plain School and quit school at an early age to help out with the family and chores. On October 24, 1933 Lucy married Steve Muzyka at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The couple moved on their own farm north of Cana in 1937. After purchasing more land they moved to the Happy Home area where they raised their three children. Lucy always had a big garden and kept busy helping with the farming operation. She was skilled in housework and chores also had the ability to manage 6 horses on various farm implements. Lucy volunteered her time and wares to raise money to build the Most Precious Blood Church east of Brewer. The couple moved into Melville in 1968 and quit farming in 1974. In the early 60's Lucy worked at the C.N.R. Beanery Café as a cook and waitress. In the late 60's she began working at St. Peter's Hospital kitchen til the late 1970's. In 2004 Lucy suffered a stroke and after therapy in Wascana she was admitted to St. Paul Lutheran Home where she remained until entering her eternal rest on Saturday, January 22, 2011 five days after celebrating her 95the birthday. Predeceased by her parents father in 1948, mother in 1974, husband Steve in 1999, sisters Joanna and Anna in infancy, Martha in 2006; brothers Adam and Paul in infancy, John in 1974, Cornelius in 2010. Lucy leaves to cherish her memory three children, Steven (Dianne) Muzyka, Ann (Rudy) Padar and Agnes Farkes; grandchildren Derek (Shawn) Muzyka and Alexa; Laurie (Edmond) Breland and Annamay; Myrna Lang, Michael and Stephanie; Ray (Sandra) Padar, Ryan and Reece; Brent Farkes; Wanda Farkes (Curtis Brooks), Charley and Kale; Chris MacDonald; Jackie MacDonald (Michael Glascock), Aiden; two sisters-in-law Bertha Switzer and Rosallie Woloschuk; as well as numerous god-children, nieces and nephews. Prayer Services were held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Antoni Degutis O.M.I. as the Celebrant. Debbie Wotherspoon did the readings as well the intercessions. The giftbearers were Myrna Lang and Laurie Muzyka-Breland and eucharistic Minister was Rosallie Woloschuk. Organist Len Gadica led in the hymns "Amazing Grace", "Peace Is Flowing Like A River", "I Will Never Forget You" and "On Eagles Wings". Members of the C.W.L. formed an honor guard. The interment followed in the St. Henry's Parish Cemetery with Derek Muzyka, Ryan Padar, Brent Farkes, Reece Padar, Chris MacDonald and Ray Padar as the casketbearers.
