Obituary of Helen Matcyk

MATCYK - Helen Matcyk was born on June 17, 1916 at Roblin, Manitoba; a daughter of George and Ann Glutyk. She was raised on the family farm and attended Hillcrest School. As a young woman, she helped on the farm. On June 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Steve Matcyk at Roblin. The couple farmed in the Calder district until 1964, and then moved to the Churchbridge district, where they farmed until 1977, when they retired and moved into Calder. Helen always grew a large garden that produced a bountiful harvest every year. In her spare time she enjoyed drawing as a favorite pastime. After Steve's death in June of 1992, Helen remained in Calder until May of 2010. In August, she became a resident of the Langenburg Centennial Care Home, where she had resided until her passing. Helen passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011. She was 94 years of age. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; and by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Malakoane of Calgary; grandchildren: Todd, Sean, Tim and Christel. Also eight great grandchildren, a sister, Elizabeth Karmazynuk, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Saturday, afternoon January 22, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, Yorkton with Mr. Gerald Kreba of the Yorkton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark with Ray Lacusta, Robert Purich, Arnold Balabuk, Garry Delesoy, Dennie Dube and Jason Nash serving as the casketbearers.
