STUMPH - Mary Stumph beloved wife of Alex Stumph of Yorkton succumbed to her battle with cancer on January 16th, 2011. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Aspen Villa with her devoted husband lovingly by her side. She was ninety years of age. Mary Brown became Mary Stumph by giving her hand to Alex Stumph on February 16th, 1941 in Stornoway, Saskatchewan. They were blessed in marriage for sixty-nine years, in this union one son and two daughters were born. Through the marriage Mary was a homemaker, employee at co-op, a dedicated mother and wife. Mary was born on December 3rd, 1920 in Rhein, Saskatchewan and was a daughter of George and Eva Brown (Nee Becker). She attended various schools in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Mary continued to live at home until she was married. Mary expressed her love for life in many ways through her crocheting, knitting and cake decorating. It was later in life when she developed her passion for fishing, playing cards and the game of dice. Mary was always a lady of happiness. She brought true joy to the world and to those that were blessed to know her. Mary was predeceased by her parents, George and Elizabeth; six brothers, Pete, Wilfred, Victor, Henry, Dave and George; two sisters, Lydia and Anna. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Alex; son, Allan (Audrey); two daughters, Myra (Edmund) Lutz and Barbara (Ken) Atkinson all of Yorkton; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; three brothers, Edward (Gladys) of Thunder Bay, ON, Alex of Victoria, BC and Robert (Marlene) of Chilliwack, BC; two sisters, Lillian (Ivan) of Yorkton and Pauline of Weyburn as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Service of Comfort was held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Pastor Daniel Moeller assisted by Vicar Daniel Bonato officiating. Organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Rock of Ages', ‘Jesus Lead Thou On' and ‘How Great Thou Art'. Interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Lindsay Nerbas, Lance Coleman, Bob Lutz, Mark Jalbert, Robert Norberg and Ivan Varga serving as the casketbearers. A reception followed with granddaughters, Theresa Nerbas, Janna Jalbert and Rhyna Coleman giving tributes and words of remembrance on behalf of the family. Memorials in memory of Mary may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Canadian Diabetes Association as gifts of remembrance.
