SERBY - Mrs. Luba Serby beloved wife of the late Carl Serby formerly of Theodore passed away at the Foam Lake Jubilee Home on January 4, 2011 at the age of 86. Luba was one of eight children born to Emilian and Teodosia Ustinovich in Luzany Poland on October 30, 1924. At the age of 16, Luba was taken from her family and was held in a work camp during the Second World War. In 1948 after being released from the work camp she immigrated to Canada landing in Halifax, then travelled to Winnipeg and found employment as a nanny. During this time she met Carl who was working in Winnipeg. They were married in Winnipeg on January 22, 1949 and shortly thereafter returned to the Theodore district to take up farming. The couple farmed together, retiring into Theodore in 1976. Luba was a homemaker who enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, sewing, gardening and cooking. After 71 years (1939-2010) of not having any contact with her family, through the aid of the Canadian Red Cross and her sister, Luba was reunited with her only surviving sister Nadia, whom she had frequently spoken about. Luba leaves to cherish her memory her children: Sylvia Chocorlan; Audrey (Tony) Hudjack; Donna (Wayne) Zastrizny; Michael (Rita) Serby; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn her passing, sister Nadia and brothers Theodore and Basil. She is predeceased by her husband Carl (2007); son Ivan (1979); son-in-law Mike Chocorlan (2006); parents Emilian and Teodosia; sisters Taciana, Alexandra, Elaina; brother Eugene.
