Obituary of John Petrowsky

PETROWSKY - Mr. John Petrowsky of Yorkton, formerly of the Ituna district, beloved husband of Elizabeth passed away on December 23, 2010 after a brief stay in Yorkton Regional Health Centre. John was born in Otthon Saskatchewan on January 27, 1924, the son of Joseph and Tilly Petrowsky. John received his education at Jaraslow School. The Petrowsky family left the farm in Otthon in 1937 and moved to the Hardrock district. His early jobs included working in a lumber mill in Ontario, road construction and fencing in the PFRA before deciding to remain on the farm full time. In 1956 he married Elizabeth Spilchen and together began their farm next to his parents homestead. John and Elizabeth raised four beautiful children. Gerald (Agnes) Petrowsky, Bernadette (Ken) Kuschak, Jerome Petrowky and Peter Petrowsky. Bernadette and Ken also blessed them with three grandchildren who in turn blessed them with 5 great grandchildren; Kim (Brent) Gervais and their children Keira, Ava, Karden, Karla (Aaron) Sauve and their son Davin, Tammi (Bryan) Yanko and their daughter Harley. If you were to ask John what would you like to be in life, he would respond with the same answer every time "A farmer". He loved the farming way of life. He enjoyed helping his friends and neighbours as much as his family. He took great pride in his fields, his cattle and his equipment. He especially loved his John Deere 80 tractor which was his real pride and joy. John had many enjoyments in life, being deeply spiritual, he enjoyed attending church on Sunday. He also enjoyed visiting with his neighbours, playing cards with his friends and when possible spending time at the lake. Along with his children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren hold a special place in his heart. The time he spent taking them for walks, picking flowers, or having them in the grain truck during harvest was an incredible joy for him. John and his grandchildren would giggle as they would tickle his feet while he lay in his recliner which would later be passed on to his great grandchildren. John leaves to mourn and celebrate his life his loving wife of 54 years Elizabeth, his four children and their family's; sisters Annie Sass, Leona Milo, Alice (Nick) Holowatuik; brother Frank (Annie) Petrowsky; sisters-in-law Ilene Petrowsky and Katie Petrowsky as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
