Obituary of Larry Doroshenko
DOROSHENKO - Larry Peter Doroshenko was born on February 3, 1946 in the Churchhill district, north of Ituna Saskatchewan; a son of Nick and Helen (nee Homeniuk) Doroshenko. Larry was raised on the family farm and received his schooling at the Churchhill Country School. As a young man Larry helped on the home farm. He eventually moved into Ituna, where he resided for many years. In Ituna, Larry was a good handyman, and enjoyed doing odd jobs for the residents of the community. For a number of years Larry resided with the Redemptorist Fathers at the Sacred Heart Parish, where he would be often seen doing building and yard maintenance for the church. Larry enjoyed camping and fishing and went on many fishing trips with family and friend. Later Larry became a resident of the Ituna Hotel, where he also did building maintenance and helped maintain both the inside and outside of the facility in his humble and friendly manner. Some years ago, Larry moved to Yorkton. During his years here, Larry lived across from the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, where he would often be seen visiting. Larry always maintained a positive outlook and took each day as it came. In his own particular way, he was a good friend of many people throughout Yorkton, often seen in the streets and mall interacting with his friends. Larry had a servant heart and over the last four years at the Suites on Bradbrooke, he became a trusted and beloved friend to not only the many tenants but also to the Swan family that will dearly miss his fun loving, gentle hearted spirit that they knew Larry by. Larry passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a brief battle with cancer. He was 64 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, Nick & Helen, a sister Emily in infancy, and sister Helen Woytas-Wlaz; by brothers John, Mike, Nestor and Eugene; and a nephew, David Doroshenko. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Lena Doroshenko and Wanda Kushnerik; nieces: Lillian, Cindy, Valerie, Gloria and Violet, and nephews: Clifford, Allan and Wayne Doroshenko, and Wayne Woytas, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
