DOBKO - Christine Dobko wife of Walter Dobko of Yorkton passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Regina General Hospital. Christine Irene Dobko was born on March 10, 1941 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Chris (as she was called by all who knew her) was the youngest of the six children of Nicholas and Sophie (nee Malayny) Yaholnitsky. Her father Nicholas always held a special place in her heart. She was raised on the family farm just East of Yorkton. She attended school at Rosemount and Yorkton Collegiate. As a young woman she worked as a nurse's aide at the Yorkton Airport Hospital Auxiliary. Following her marriage to Walter Dobko on April 13, 1958 they would have a brief stay in Toronto, returning to a farm South of Yorkton where they would live and raise their eventual eight children. With a large family to raise, Chris never stopped looking for ways to provide everything she could for her family. With one of the largest vegetable gardens, a variety of farm animals, and many entrepreneurial ventures, she would be known as a determined and hard worker by all who knew her well. She later took work at the Park Unit of the Yorkton Nursing home as an aide, a career that would last well over twenty years until her retirement in 2002 at the age of 61. With an inviting and warm personality as well as a great sense of humour, she made many life long friends. As an accomplished golfer she was well known and would win most tournaments that she entered. In her spare time Chris also loved to fish, camp, crochet, play cards, cook, work in her garden, do intricate puzzles, watch movies, have family get togethers and bbq's, listen to music and Joyce Myers on The Rock, as well as many other interests. Her children always held a special place in her heart and were the main focus of her love and giving throughout her life. Their accomplishments were the center of many of her conversations and praise. Though she took ill in 2006 and would be forced to give up many of the things that she loved to do, she thanked God for the extra time she was blessed with to spend with her children, grandchildren and great--grandchildren. Attending church on a regular basis at P.H.C.L.C. she would find peace and comfort in the worship and people she met there. In the summer of 2008 she would confirm her love for Jesus and be water baptized at Good Spirit Lake in front of family and friends. On December 22, 2010 at the Regina General Hospital, Chris was called home to be with Jesus in a way fitting to her unselfish and loving dedication to her children; surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Chris leaves to cherish her memory her eight children and their families: six sons, Richard (Laura), Patrick (Michelle), Clayton (Diana), Wade (Ursula), Owen (Rae), and Carman (Teri); two daughters, Katherine (Robert) and Wanda (Dennis); grandchildren, Jodi (Dugald), Kari (Cortney), Tara (Darren), Jamie (Mark), Justin, Janna, Tyler, Kristin, Andrew, Melissa, Jacob, Kade, Payton, Joshua, Mundon, Mykita, and Ryker; great- grandchildren, Tristen, Mason, Kaydence, and Jayda; brothers, Frank (Angie) and Ernest (Florence); sisters, Ruth and Ethel; brother in law Ernie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Chris was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Alice Derworiz and two brothers in law, Wally and Emil. The funeral service was held on Friday, December 31, 2010 from the Prairie Harvest Christian Life Centre in Yorkton with Pastor Desmond Klingspon officiating. Special music was provided by Cheryl Klingspon, 'Better Than A Hallelujah', and 'When I Speak Your Name'. Pastor Jeff Niebergall read the eulogy. A video tribute created by Al Dobko was played.
