Obituary of Dennis Trafananko

TRAFANANKO - Dennis Gerald Trafananko, P.ENG, was born on November 4, 1949 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, a son to John Arthur and Malvina Maria (nee Charko) Trafananko. Dennis received his grade 1 to 9 at Wroxton School and grades 10 to 12 graduating at Kamsack High School. He attended the University of Saskatchewan for 1 year and transferred to the University of Manitoba, where he studied engineering for 4 years. He graduated from the college of Mechanical Engineering as a P.ENG (Professional Engineer). Dennis began his career in Alberta with Schlumberger, an oil service company specializing in the logging of oil wells. His engineering career also provided him opportunities in: Saskatchewan, offshore Newfoundland and offshore Louisiana, USA. Dennis's next love was computers. He could build, fix or program most anything. Dennis attended Mount Royal Collage in Calgary, and worked in the computer service field for Suncore and other companies of that like. Dennis moved to Yorkton in 2001, to look after his mother in her final years. After his mother passed away in 2006, he moved to Melville and continued to repair computers in the Yorkton, Melville district. Dennis was a very loyal member of the AA's and really believed in this program. He enjoyed mountain biking, roller-blading, and loved hiking in Kananaskis Park, Alberta, "Burstall Pass" being his favorite location. He loved pets especially his dogs Spot and Sheeba. Dennis enjoyed dog sitting Myron's dog Champ, and was able to hold Simba as a pup when he was in St. Peter's Hospital. In 2009 Dennis was diagnosed with cancer, which took his life Friday, December 10, 2010 at Melville St. Peter's Hospital, at the age of 61 years. Dennis is predeceased by his father John and mother Malvina. Dennis leaves to cherish his memory, brother Myron (Cheryl) and their children Chelsea and Christy of Melville, as well as cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Prayer Services were held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Melville. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Melville with Pastor Lynda Wowk officiating. Chelsea Trafananko and Christy Trafananko did the readings and the eulogist was Joan Berntson. Organist Mrs. Geri Miller led the congregation in the hymns, "Here I Am Lord", "Spirit of Gentleness", "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Honorary Bearers were Chelsea Trafananko, Christy Trafananko, Joan Berntson, Harold Trafananko, Bob Trafananko and Lousie Harlow. The urnbearers were Chelsea Trafananko, Christy Trafananko and Myron Trafananko. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Melville.
