Obituary of Peter Bohay

BOHAY - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Peter Bohay on November 26, 2010. Peter was born to Stephen and Mary (Char) in Goodeve, Saskatchewan on March 4, 1924. He attended Robert School and completed his education as a machinist and welder in Winnipeg. He worked in Hamilton, Vancouver and Thunder Bay before moving to Yorkton, Saskatchewan with the one true love of his life, Nadine who he wed on July 21, 1951. In Yorkton, Peter worked for Bowman Brothers, now Acklands Granger, for his entire career. He retired as Shop Foreman in 1987. Peter was proud of the service he gave while working and even in retirement liked to be active and busy. Peter and Nadine were blessed with three children, Shirley, Debra and Richard. He dearly loved his two granddaughters Erin and Amy. Peter enjoyed the outdoors and the time he spent on the farm, in his garden, on the golf course or on the water, fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed family and friends and a good game of cards. He had a strong faith in God that sustained him throughout his life. Peter was predeceased by his infant daughter Shirley, his father Stephen, his mother Mary, his step- mother Helen, his sisters Rosie, Nellie, Annie and Lena and his brothers Matt, Walter, Billy and John. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by his wife Nadine (Dumka); his children Debra (Mel Karakochuk) and Richard; his granddaughters Erin (Steve Yakiwchuk) and Amy (Eric Rowley) and many nieces and nephews. Prayers were held on Monday, November 29th, preceded by the Holy Rosary led by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. Requiem Divine Liturgy was held on Tuesday, November 30th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and Parish Choir members. The crossbearers were Amy Karakochuk & Erin Yakiwchuk and the epistle reader was Gladys Sobkow. Members of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood formed the Honour Guard. A eulogy was shared by Mel Karakochuk. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Bradley Bohay, Steven Bohay, Nick Karkut, Steve Karkut, Nestor Koback and Lawrence Herasymiuk serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Peter may be made to a Charity of Choice or to St. Mary's Cultural Centre. Condolences to the family can be forwarded to baileysfuneralhome@sasktel.net Vichnaya Pamyat!
