Obituary of Anne Skochylas

SKOCHYLAS - Annie Skochylas passed away October 29, 2010. Anne was born on the family farm north of the village of Goodeve, Sask. She was the daughter of John and Mary Stecyk (Kolody). Anne received her education at a country school in Beaver Hills. Anne was united in marriage to John Skochylas at St. Mary's Church in Yorkton. John and Anne farmed in the Homefield district. They had three sons. The family were members of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church north of Goodeve. John passed away at an early age. Anne and her three sons continued to live on the farm. After John's death Anne's independence and strength grew stronger. She was always there, could be counted on and she cherished her family and her friends. For many years Anne was the president of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church making sure the church was kept clean along with the linen's and the vestments. In the summer time the Sisters of Ituna from St. Anne's Home were teaching Catechism at the farm church. While there they lived with Anne and the boys. The Sisters were very special for Anne and her family. Anne ensured that dinner was served for the Sisters and the Priest in the church along with a few friends and her family. A few years later Anne and her sons moved to Yorkton. Anne kept boarders and worked at home until all her family left home. During that time she also took courses to further her education at the Yorkton Regional High School. She then became employed at the Holiday Inn and later with the Yorkton Union Hospital until her retirement. For several years Anne was a volunteer with the East Central Health District. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxillary for the Royal Canadian Legion #77, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxillary of St. Mary's Church. Anne sang on the church choir until she began working nights, it then became harder to attend practises. Anne became a foster parent for Robert Unigo of the Philippines until Robert was able to be on his own. Anne loved to travel. Anne will be remembered for her energy, love of life and her faith in God. The love she had for her family will always be kept in their hearts. She was a never ending source of encouragement to all that knew her. Anne was predeceased by her parents, brothers Metro and Billy who passed away in his infancy, two sisters Katie and Polly, her husband John in 1958, her son Ronald in 1979 and grandson Stephen in 2002.
