Doreen Andrusiak was born February 4, 1943 in Roblin, MB to Joseph and Annie [nee Cox] Redman. She was the youngest of six children. At the age of five, Doreen sadly lost her mom Annie to breast cancer. Doreen attended Grade 1-2 in Sturgis, SK while living at her sister Dorothy’s place. She attended Grades 3-8 in San Clara, MB while living with her dad Joseph. Doreen met George Andrusiak in 1959. They were married on May 26, 1961 in the United Church at Silverwood, MB. After they were married George worked in Northern AB building the Mackenzie Highway. Brian was born in 1962 and Brenda in 1965. In 1965 Doreen and George moved to the Esterhazy area and George began work at the IMC K2 potash mine. They parked their house trailer in the farmyard of Adam and Eleanor Husnik until 1968 when they moved to Gerald, SK and this is where Doreen still resided up until her passing. Doreen and George raised their two children Brian and Brenda with an abundance of love. Doreen enjoyed helping George with the gardening where he was the foreman. She would preserve the produce they harvested and cook the family meals. She was a very neat and organized woman and kept a very clean and tidy home. The two of them cheered Brian on in hockey and Brenda in her figure skating and 4-H. The family went on several camping vacations over the years. George retired in 1999 from Rocanville PCS. George and Doreen travelled to Hawaii shortly after retirement and went on a few bus tours to the US. They later purchased a motorhome and toured Alaska and BC. They enjoyed their seasonal campsite at Lost Meadows at Lake of the Prairies, MB where they spent many weeks relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the Assiniboine Valley. When George passed, Doreen kept the motorhome at Lost Meadows and frequently spent time there. They both loved to spend time with their six Grandchildren and would often keep them overnight for sleepovers. They really enjoyed their Grandson’s hockey games and it was rare not to see them at the rink in the stands. They also attended their Grandchildren’s school plays and concerts and their Granddaughters gymnastics shows and basketball games. They were often in the stands at their Grandson’s baseball games cheering them on. They both shared a love of watching curling on TV and in the last few years Doreen watched the Toronto Maple Leaf’s games and would text back and forth with her Grandson Brayden. Doreen was proud and able to attend all of her Grandchildren’s graduations. She was also thrilled to be able to attend four of her Grandchildren’s weddings. Doreen loved her Great Grandchildren and would light up when she saw them. She loved seeing them and was so proud of them. She kept many “brag” photos. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Annie Redman and her siblings – Dorothy (Dick) Smith, Walter Redman, Robert Redman, Hazel (Bill) Irving and Albert Redman.
