Obituary of Annie Wasilinchuk
WASILINCHUK (GALL)- Mrs. Annie Wasilinchuk, formerly Annie Gall entered eternal rest on October 23, 2010 at the age of 97 years. Annie was born June 11, 1913 in Hamton, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest child of Wasyl and Annie Skihar. The family moved to a farm in the Gorlitz district when Annie was just an infant. She attended Ukraina School into her early teens and then was needed to help out on the farm and care for her younger siblings. Later she worked as a housekeeper at a local ranch and in Yorkton. Annie married John Gall in 1939 and was blessed with one daughter, Esther. They farmed in the Ebenezer area where she grew a large vegetable and flower garden and worked alongside John on the grain and cattle farm. She especially enjoyed her garden and tending the cattle. In 1964 John and Annie sold their farm and retired to Yorkton. Annie travelled with John to Yugoslavia, his birthplace. It was there in 1973, that he passed away. Annie worked as a custodian for the Yorkton Regional Library. She was associated with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as long as her health permitted and attended functions at the New Horizons Senior Citizens Club. She toured parts of Ukraine and Russia. In Ukraine she made a special effort to meet with some descendents of her mother's side of the family. This was especially memorable for her. She enjoyed many kinds of crafts such as crocheting, knitting and decorating Easter eggs. Music was another joy. She could be counted on to sing Ukrainian songs at various events. She loved to dance and taught herself to play the violin. Annie liked to read especially the Bible and Ukrainian folklore. Prayer was a part of her daily ritual even in the later stages of her Alzheimers. In 1980 she married Bill Wasilinchuk. Several years following his death, she independently sold her house and moved into a suite in Lynda Apartments. She resided there until 1997 when it was necessary for her to move into a personal care home. In 2004 Annie became a resident of the Skinner Unit in the Yorkton Nursing Home. Annie leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Esther and son-in-law Lyle Hardy of St. Albert, AB; her brother Matt (Ursula) Skihar of Delta, BC; her sisters Lee Mitchell of Port Alberni, BC, Elsie Mailer of Edmonton, AB, and Nell Cooper of Kelowna, BC; brother-in-law Steve Zelych and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, first husband John and second husband Bill, her brother John Skihar and sisters Teenie Dutka, Mary Chornomud and Kathy Zelych. Also predeceasing her were her brothers-in-law: Alex Dutka, George Chornomud, Larry Cooper, Bud Mailer and Johnny Mitchell. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by William Kozey & Parish Choir Members.
