Obituary of Shirley Carnduff

CARNDUFF - Shirley Carnduff, beloved wife of Russell Carnduff of Yorkton, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 84 years of age. Shirley was born on June 17, 1926 in Yorkton. She was the daughter of Charles M. and Katherine Wolfe (nee Schaan). Shirley was raised in MacNutt with brother Wesley where her father owned a grocery store. In 1943 Shirley moved to Yorkton to finish high school and boarded with her cousin Corky and her family. After graduation from Yorkton Collegiate Shirley worked at the Bank of Montreal until 1951 when she married Russell Carnduff on February 14. The couple began their life together in an apartment over the Ford Dealership that Russell and his father owned. In June 1952 daughter Brenda was born. The family moved to a home on Betts Avenue and in May 1954 son Craig was born. In 1960 they began building a new home on Sixth Avenue and lived with Shirley's parents over the grocery store they owned on First Avenue until the home was complete. After Russell's illness in 1996 Shirley cared for him in the family home and they spent many hours sitting together trading memories of their years together. Russell moved to the nursing home in 2010 and Shirley remained in the home until her passing. Shirley was a wonderful homemaker raising the children and supporting Russell as his business grew. She was a skilled seamstress sewing for herself and the family. She especially enjoyed working on costumes for the high school musicals. A great cook she always had wonderful baking and preserves in the home. She worked on perfecting her recipes especially butter tarts and chokecherry jelly. Shirley was very creative and enjoyed drawing and crafts. She made birthday parties and seasonal celebrations extra special with her creative touches. Over the years the family enjoyed camping in their trailer at Good Spirit Lake and later at the cottage at Madge Lake. Following Russell's retirement the couple owned properties in Arizona. They drove down during winter months for time in the sun and enjoyed golfing, shopping and socializing with many other "snowbird" friends. Shirley adored her grandchildren Gage and Samantha and loved to spoil them as children. She had a special bond with them as young adults and treasured every visit. Shirley loved to read and had a wide range of interests' especially current events. She loved to learn and discuss her opinions. Shirley had a strong will, keen intellect and straightforward personality. You always knew where you stood with her. She had wonderful friends whom she loved and always enjoyed spending time with especially as she became ill. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Russell (Yorkton Nursing Home), daughter Brenda Story (Vancouver), Son Craig (Karen) Carnduff (Yorkton), grandchildren Gage and Samantha Carnduff (Saskatoon). Shirley was predeceased by her parents Charles and Katherine Wolfe, brother Wesley Wolfe, nephew David Wolfe. The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from St. Andrew's United Church with Rev. Milo Spooner Craig officiating. Jeff Niebergall gave a tribute to Shirtley. Organist, Shani Apland led members of the church choir and the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Abide With Me', 'Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore', 'Those Hearts That We Have Treasured', and 'We Shall Go Out With Hope'. Honorary bearers were Shirley deBalinhard, Mary Laakso, Bill Dicker, Jeff Niebergall, Brenda Kozicki, Debbie Hawboldt and Enid Avy. The interment took place in the Garden of St. John at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Gage Carnduff as the urnbearer. Thanks to the United Church Women for the wonderful lunch, Shani Apland and the United Church Choir for their musical gifts, Jeff Niebergall for his support and special tribute to mother and Baileys Funeral Home for the caring and professional funeral services. Special thanks to Rev Milo Spooner-Craig for her kindness and beautiful service. Cremation and funeral arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
