Obituary of Ardis Arneson
ARNESON - Mrs. Ardis Arneson of Yorkton passed away suddenly while visiting her grandchildren in Aylmer, Quebec on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She was 82 years of age. Ardis Elvira Arneson was born on June 13, 1928 near Stenen, Saskatchewan; daughter of Arvid William and Esther (nee Franzen) Olson. Ardis was raised on the family farm and received her education in the district. As a young woman, Ardis attended Normal School and received her permanent first teaching certificate in 1947. She taught school at Bonnie Bank and Poplar Point. On December 23, 1949 Ardis was united in marriage to Norman Arneson. On June 30, 1950 she retired from teaching to become a "stay at home mom". Nine year later, when both boys had finished grade one, Ardis returned to teaching at Bear Stream School, seven miles north and east of Kamsack. When the roads were good, Ardis commuted, when they were bad she lived in a teacherage. On weekends, they lived in Kamsack. Four years later she was transferred to Victoria School in Kamsack where she stayed for the remainder of her teaching career. In 1988, Ardis retired after 32.4 memorable years. She said the greatest reward was to see the children blossom and grow to become good citizens of our country. In 1996, Norman passed away, and Ardis remained in Kamsack until the autumn of 2005, when she moved to Yorkton, where she has since resided. She was predeceased by her husband Norman, her parents Arvid and Esther Olson and sister Elsa Turek. Ardis leaves to cherish her memory, her son David (Lori Glass) of Fort Qu'Appelle; son Mark (Abrah) of Springbrook, Alberta; daughter Anna (Jim McLean) of Aylmer, Quebec; grandchildren Emma, Zoe and Katie McLean; brother Alfred Olson (Pat) of Sturgis, Saskatchewan; sister Anne Kemp (George) of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; sister Cecilia Larson (David) of Preeceville, Saskatchewan; brother Arthur Olson (Donna) of Stenen, Saskatchewan; brother-in-law Stan Turek of Regina and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 1st at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorkton with Rev. Fred Schneider officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Softly and Tenderly", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Just As I am". Special musical selection, "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Ray Yost. Members of the St. Paul Altar Guild participated in an honour guard. Members of the Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation attended as a body. The interment followed the Garden of St. Matthew at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Emma McLean serving as the urn bearer. Memorials in memory of Ardis may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society as gifts of remembrance.
