Obituary of Walter Wingerak
WINGERAK - Mr. Walter Wingerak passed away on August 28th 2010. His final day was spent surrounded by family that Walter touched in so many memorable ways. Walter was born January 30th, 1921, in the Ituna District, a son of Wasyl and Paraska (nee Martiniuk) Wingerak. He attended school in Hubbard. On August 1, 1954, Walter was united in marriage to Stephanie Olchowy at Sacred Heart Church. Walter took up farming until 1961. In 1965 he took a position with the Department of Highways and worked there until retirement in 1985. In 2002 Walter and Stephanie moved to Regina and enjoyed socializing and activities that included card playing in their senior's complex. Walter looked forward to his daily walk to the mall where he met up with his coffee group. Walter also enjoyed gardening and fishing. One of Walters finest qualities was his easygoing, happy-go-lucky demeanor who always offered up a heart warming smile and a welcome to the people he knew. He had the gift of conversation no matter if it was a friend or a total stranger. He was fondly known by his family as Gido. Walter was predeceased by three sisters: Olga Krushelniski, Rose Stacheruk, and Kay Michalko; and by two brothers: Leo and James Wingerak. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Stephanie of 56 years, son David Wingerak and wife Leanne, daughter Theresa Poloyko and husband Harvey, all of Regina; four grandchildren: Chris Poloyko, Amy Poloyko, Jessica McCarthy and Matthew Poloyko; six great-grandchildren: Ashton, MacKenzie and Kaden McCarthy, Colton and Jessie Sheen, and Isobel Poloyko. Also two sisters: Mary Kolida of Dauphin and Helen Moskal of Ituna. The prayer services were held on Tuesday evening, August 31, 2010 and the Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday morning, September 1, 2010, all from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna. Very Rev. Father Boris Kyba C.Ss.R. was the celebrant. Cantors, Wayne Boczulak, Heidi Spilchuk and Ladmer Moskal led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearers were Jessica, Kaden & Mackenzie McCarthy. Amy Poloyko read the Epistle. The interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with David Wingerak, Harvey, Chris & Matthew Poloyko, and Jeff and Ashton McCarthy serving as the casket bearers.
