Obituary of Olga Martinuk
MARTINUK - Mrs. Olga Martinuk of the Calder district entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 94 years. Olga was born March 15, 1916 at Dauphin, Manitoba to Andrew & Ellena (Farena) Rubashewsky. Olga was the youngest of 12 children. She grew up on a farm in the Arran district and received public and secondary education at Arran. In 1935 she attended Saskatoon Normal School & Peter Mohyla Institute. She then taught school in the districts of Buchanan, Stenen, Foam Lake, Calder and MacNutt. On October 12, 1941 she married Paul Martinuk in Yorkton and then went on to farm at Calder, where they raised three sons, Arthur, Dennis and Terry. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Ladies Club in Calder and secretary of the new St. Mary's Church for 9 years and treasurer for 2 years. Olga enjoyed reading a good book, Ukrainian or English, as well as history books. Radio open line programs were also enjoyable to Olga along with politics and current affairs. Olga was predeceased by her husband Paul, parents Andrew & Ellena Rubashewsky, brothers Walter, John, Michael, William, Athanazie, Paul and Emil; sisters Mary (Emil) Puchalski, Alexandra (Eli) Chorneyko and Rose Rubashewsky. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life, her three sons, Arthur of Calder, Dennis (Marilyn) of Saskatoon and Terry (Thuan) of Toronto; five grandchildren Scott, Jeremy, Laurel, Tam and Tu. Prayers were held on Sunday, August 29th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, August 30th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Calder with Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Walter Balabuk & Parish Choir Members. The cross bearer and epistle reader was Laurel Martinuk. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jeremy Martinuk, Scott Martinuk, Ron Martin, Gerald Shymko, Ken Docking and Wesley Fyck serving as the casket bearers.
