Obituary of Alex Baluk
BALUK - Alex Baluk beloved husband of Susan Baluk passed away on August 22, 2010 at his home residence in Yorkton. Alexander William Baluk, eldest son of Wally and Adeline was born on October 19, 1952 in Norquay, Saskatchewan. At the age of three his parents moved to Yorkton. While receiving his education Alex worked part time at the Yorkton Co-op Grocery store, and at the Yorkton Union Hospital in dietary. After graduation, he started working full time in dietary at the Hospital and transferred to the Psychiatric Centre where he worked for two years as a male aid. He married Susan Duff on July 16, 1977. At this time he decided that he would like to work in the trades. Alex moved to Saskatoon to begin schooling for plumbing at the Kelsey Institute. On December 18th, 1984 Alex received his Journeyman's Certificate in plumbing. He worked at a couple of odd jobs before starting his own business, A & S Plumbing and Heating. In 1991, Alex started at the Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Yorkton where he worked for several years before finishing his career at Public Works. In his younger years Alex enjoyed playing rec hockey and slow pitch. When his son's grew older he quit playing slow pitch in order to see his boys play various sports. Alex loved to watch and cheer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the good and bad times. In his spare time, Alex loved to ride his motorcycle. Cruising on the open highway took all of his worries away. Alex is survived by his wife Susan, his two sons: Don (Brenna) and Mark; Parents: Wally and Adeline; and brother Dan (Natalie) and their two sons Kevin (Christine, and daughter Addison), and Jason (Karling). Also a brother-in-law Ian (Marina) and their two children Jenna and Graeme. His aunts and uncles: Nelly Prokopchuk, Danny (Vicky) Bazowski, and Alex (Marg) Bazowski, and many cousins and friends. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday morning, August 27, 2010 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny C.Ss.R.as Celebrant. Cantor, Ed Pindus, assisted by members of St. Mary's Partish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Sons Don and Mark were the urnbearers. A memorial luncheon was held following the interment in the reception room of the Family Centre. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
