Obituary of Olga Bonsal
BONSAL - Mrs Olga Bonsal, beloved wife of William passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, July 13th, 2010. She was born on May 7th, 1930 on the District of Ebenezer. Olga was the daughter of Steve and Tillie Korzenowski. Olga received her education at Brentarian School and St. Mary's High School. After completing her education, she worked with her sister Irene as the co-proprietors of the Bus Depot restaurant. Olga went on to work at the Auxillary Hospital as a nurse's aide whereby she put her heart and soul into looking after the sick and injured. She was a natural "caregiver". Olga left the Auxillary hospital in 1959 to experience other opportunities such as working at the O.K. Economy, Zeller's and the Yorkton Hotel. Olga's heart led her back to where her passion was and returned to working at the Yorkton Union Hospital. Olga was united in marriage to William Bonsal on August 23rd, 1960 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. They would have been married for 50 years. Olga was a devoted wife, caring mother and grandmother and an incredibly compassionate person to all who knew her. Her sense of humour, trustworthy, strength and integrity are all characteristics that will be honoured and remembered. Olga was known for her "event planning". She was the "team leader" for family gatherings, putting costumes together for Halloween, baking chiffon cakes for weddings, and planning a nurse's reunion. No one knew how to manoeuvre around a kitchen like Mom/Baba. She was a fabulous cook and a highly organized individual. She was a great hostess; whenever friends and family came over everyone was welcomed and never left hungry. Olga leaves to mourn her passing but to celebrate her life, William her husband; five children, Betty Ostapovich and her son Lenkyn of Richmond, BC., Barbara Maduck and her children Sarah, Thomas, Stephen and Gabrielle of Saskatoon, SK., Robert Bonsal and his son Justin of Saskatoon, SK., Jackie Bonsal of Vancouver, BC., and Scott (Tracy) Bonsal and their daughter Victoria of Hinton, AB., her sister Jean (Glenn) Zachur of Foam Lake, SK., a brother, Nick Boychuk, her brothers and sister-in-laws Evelyn Boychuk, Roy Molnar, and Marion Korzenowski as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her parents Steve and Tillie (Shordee) Korzenowski, her brother's Matt Boychuk and Peter Korzenowski, sister Irene Molnar. Prayers were held on Thursday, July 15th and Requiem Divine Liturgy on Friday, July 16th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Rev. Fr. Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. Responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & St. Mary's Parish Members. The cross bearer was Gerry Bonsal and the epistle reader was Sarah Maduck. Barbara Maduck shared reflections of her mother's life. The interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Lenkyn Ostapovich, Sarah Maduck, Thomas Maduck, Stephen Maduck, Gabrielle Maduck, Barrie Bonsal and Victoria Bonsal serving as the casket bearers. Following the committal a musical tribute, "Amazing Grace" was shared by Janice Schendel (Accordionist).
