Obituary of Michael Ozirney
The family of Michael Ozirney of Regina and formerly of Yorkton, beloved husband of the late Mary Ozirney, sadly announce his passing on January 20, 2023. He was 88 years of age.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 15th at 3:00pm in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre.
Memorial donations in memory of Michael Ozirney may be made to the Health Foundation (41 Betts Ave., Yorkton, SK. S3N 1M1) for the New Regional Hospital Fund as gifts of remembrance.
OZIRNEY, Michael
October 25, 1934 – January 20, 2023
Michael (Mike) Ozirney was born on October 25, 1934 on the farm in Stenen, SK to parents William and Mary (nee Kitchen). He passed away peacefully with his nieces by his side on January 20, 2023 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK after a short illness.
Mike grew up on the farm near Stenen and attended George Albert School & Stenen High School. He was a telegraph operator for Canadian National Railroad at various places in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario for 12 years. He then worked at Canada Post for 22 years in Melville and Yorkton. Mike retired from Canada Post in 1990.
Mike married Mary Rose Dillabaugh in 1963. Together they lived in Churchill, MB, Melville and Yorkton. They loved to travel and toured all of Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales, as well as parts of the USA including Hawaii and Mexico. They also spent several winters in Texas and British Columbia. Mike loved nature and the outdoors, and some of his happiest times were spent at the cabin at Madge Lake, golfing and fishing. Not having children of his own, Mike took a great interest in his nieces and nephews and loved to visit with them. After Mary’s passing in 2016, Mike remained in Yorkton until March 2022 when he moved to Regina to be closer to his family.
Mike is survived by his nieces and nephews: Murray (Lorri) Swan of Victoria, BC; Colleen (Claude) Rekken of St. Albert, AB; Rob (Joanna) Swan of Brantford, ON; Tracy (Ray) Morgan of Regina, SK; Michelle (Chris) Tangedal of Regina, SK; Kim Hunchak of Kamloops, BC; Corrine (Daren) Haygarth of Regina, SK; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father William in 1978, mother Mary in 1968, brother Teddy (infancy) in 1930, brother Lorne in 1980 and sister Victoria in 1988.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Yorkton Regional Hospital for the construction of a new facility. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Yorkton, SK. Service Details.
