Obituary of Rita Thompson

Mrs. Rita Thompson was born on July 13, 1923 at Campbellton, New Brunswick a daughter of Joseph and Angelina Doiron. She grew up in the area and received her education there. At the age of thirteen Rita moved to Val-D'or, Quebec to work at various residences as a housekeeper to send money home to help her mother during the depression. In Val-D'or Rita met Lawrence Thompson. When she returned to the Campbellton area he followed and they were later married on November 24, 1942. In 1967 Rita and Lawrence moved to Moncton, New Brunswick. Together Rita and Lawrence ran the 40 Winks Restaurant. Rita later went back to college and received her certificate as a Registered Nurses Aid. Rita worked as a Nurses Aid in Moncton until 1967 when her daughter, Zeta became ill at which time they moved to Ontario to be closer to family. Rita and Lawrence had a trailer at Summerplace, Ontario and made many new friend which they thoroughly enjoyed. Following the death of her husband Lawrence, Rita eventually made her home with her daughter and husband Betty and Ronald Evinou. Rita passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 86 years of age.Rita will be remembered as a very intelligent lady with a wonderful sense on humour that never quit learning and meeting new friends. She especially loved to gather with family. As well she enjoyed knitting, doll making, crocheting, cooking and baking. Rita was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Amelia, Blanche, Bertha and Eleanor. Rita leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her sons: Arthur (Janet) of Oshawa, ON., Michael (Lorraine) of Pembroke, ON.; daughters: Sheila (Winston) Clayton of Mississauga, ON., Betty (Ronald) Evinou of Yorkton, SK. As well she leaves her grandchildren: Debbie, Leroy, Tanya, Janet, Sandy, Ron, Lynsey, Scott, Mandy and Leslie; great grandchildren: Robert, Carson, Michael, Nicholas, Jonathan, Liberty, Ceril, Carissa, Kelsey, Marcus, Hailey, Jacob, Braydon, Kharington, Sydney, Sarah, Renee', Brooke, Jack, Jason, Taylor, Gabrielle and Parker. Her brothers: Arthur of Sault ST. Marie, On., Charles of Okotoks, AB., Henry of Munden, ON., and Roland of Toronto, ON. Interment Details
