She also was a teacher in Uranium City, Esterhazy and Calder, retiring in 1981. Since then she has been a member of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan, Yorkton branch. A strong belief of Mary's was that school should be like a nurturing family environment - a place for children that is full of kindness, happiness and learning. Mary was a very devoted lifetime member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Calder. She loved singing in the choir for as long as she could attend. She was a very active member of her community, where she helped out with whatever had to be done. She served on many committees, her most recent was the Calder Centennial Celebration Committee in 2005. For this she complied and wrote the history of Calder. Another project was the history of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She enjoyed writing poetry, plays & skits. Mary had also been the longtime contributing editor to the Yorkton This Week & Enterprise for the Calder News. Family and friends were very important to Mary. She was very hospitable and loved entertaining. She made many friends over the years and had kept in close contact with many of them.
